Το πρόβλημα είναι ότι στη συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση είναι χτύπημα κάτω από τη ζώνη όπως και αυτό:

Δεν πειράζει όμως. Το iPhone παρόλα τα χτυπήματα που δέχτηκε πριν ΚΑΝ κυκλοφορήσει και που ακόμη δέχεται τα σπάει και εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι ανά τον κόσμο ψάχνουν να το αγοράσουν γιατί το αγαπάνε και όχι επειδή είναι μονοπώλιο στα τηλέφωνα.

Το ίδιο θα γίνει και με το iPad.

Πραγματικά δεν ξέρω αν τα παραπάνω "αστεία" θα είναι τόσο αστεία τα επόμενα χρόνια και για ποιόν...

OSLO, Norway -- Aker University Hospital is a dingy place to heal. The floors are streaked and scratched. A light layer of dust coats the blood pressure monitors. A faint stench of urine and bleach wafts from a pile of soiled bedsheets dropped in a corner.

Look closer, however, at a microscopic level, and this place is pristine. There is no sign of a dangerous and contagious staph infection that killed tens of thousands of patients in the most sophisticated hospitals of Europe, North America and Asia last year, soaring virtually unchecked.

The reason: Norwegians stopped taking so many drugs.

Twenty-five years ago, Norwegians were also losing their lives to this bacteria. But Norway's public health system fought back with an aggressive program that made it the most infection-free country in the world. A key part of that program was cutting back severely on the use of antibiotics.

Now a spate of new studies from around the world prove that Norway's model can be replicated with extraordinary success, and public health experts are saying these deaths -- 19,000 in the U.S. each year alone, more than from AIDS -- are unnecessary.

``It's a very sad situation that in some places so many are dying from this, because we have shown here in Norway that Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus [MRSA] can be controlled, and with not too much effort,'' said Jan Hendrik-Binder, Oslo's MRSA medical advisor. ``But you have to take it seriously, you have to give it attention and you must not give up.''

The World Health Organization says antibiotic resistance is one of the leading public health threats on the planet. A six-month investigation by The Associated Press found overuse and misuse of medicines has led to mutations in once curable diseases like tuberculosis and malaria, making them harder and in some cases impossible to treat.

Now, in Norway's simple solution, there's a glimmer of hope.

Since at least the days of Socrates, humans have been advised to "know thyself." And through all the years, many, including many personality and social psychologists, have believed the individual is the best judge of his or her own personality.

Now a psychologist at Washington University in St. Louis has shown that we are not the know-it-alls that we think we are.

Simine Vazire, Ph.D., Washington University assistant professor of psychology in Arts & Sciences, has found that the individual is more accurate in assessing one's own internal, or neurotic traits, such as anxiety, while friends are better barometers of intellect-related traits, such as intelligence and creativity, and even strangers are equally adept as our friends and ourselves at spotting the extrovert in us all, a psychology domain known as "extroversion."

"I think that it's important to really question this knee-jerk reaction that we are our own best experts," says Vazire. "Personality is not who you think you are, it's who you are. Some people think by definition that we are the experts on our personality because we get to write the story, but personality is not the story -- it's the reality. So, you do get to write your own story about how you think you are, and what you tell people about yourself, but there still is reality out there, and, guess what? Other people are going to see the reality, regardless of what story you believe."

Personality, Vazire says, is pervasive in many things that we do -- clothing choice, bedroom arrangement, Web site and Facebook profiles, for example. "Everything you touch you leave a mark of your personality," she says. "You leave traces unintentionally. You give off hints of your personality that you don't even see yourself."

Vazire's study is published in the February 2010 issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

SEATTLE (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp made its most vehement and public attack on Google Inc on Friday, calling its internet rival's actions potentially anti-competitive, and urging victims to file complaints to regulators.

The broadside comes days after a Microsoft-owned business, along with two other small online companies, complained to European Union regulators about Google's operations there. Microsoft is also fighting a plan by Google to digitize millions of books, currently under scrutiny by the Department of Justice.

"Our concerns relate only to Google practices that tend to lock in business partners and content -- like Google Books -- and exclude competitors, thereby undermining competition more broadly," wrote Dave Heiner, Microsoft's deputy general counsel, in a blog published on the company's website on Friday.

"Ultimately the competition law agencies will have to decide whether or not Google's practices should be seen as illegal," he wrote.

Google declined to comment on Microsoft's blog.

When Steve Jobs personally called Woodstock, Georgia native Louie Sulcer to tell him he’d won Apple’s iTunes Store 10 Billion Song Sold contest, Sulcer first thought was that he was being pranked. “He called me and said, ‘This is Steve Jobs from Apple.’ I said, ‘Yeah right,’ ” Sulcer tells Rolling Stone. “I have a son that loves to play tricks and he does that every now and then — calls me and imitates somebody.” After three or four times of asking “Come on now, who is this,” Sulcer realized that his caller ID read simply “Apple,” and only then did he believe that he was the winner of the contest and a $10,000 iTunes card.

Sulcer’s winning purchase was, ironically, Johnny Cash’s “Guess Things Happen That Way,” which Sulcer downloaded for a mix of Cash songs he was making for his son. Having never heard the song, Sulcer listened to iTunes’ 30-second preview and bought the track, unaware that Apple was even having a contest celebrating their 10 billionth purchase. “I really liked it. It had some really good pickin’ in it. So that’s how I got to that song,” Sulcer says. Sulcer, a father of three and a grandfather of nine, was introduced to iTunes three years ago by an old friend at a high school reunion who taught him how to use the digital music service to load up on his favorite country songs of the 1960s.

Πουλάνε τα Mac; Ποιος το είπε;

Developers don't have any particular attachments to Macs, or so I thought, but on the Thursday I attended Webstock in Wellington last week I did a count of laptops I could see.

I counted 50 laptops, yet nearly half (23) were Macs. A few years before, at the same conference which focuses on web design and web development, the count was more like 20 per cent.

I am aware that Mac sales were up over 70% on the last financial quarter in Australasia, which includes New Zealand, but the visibility of Apple logs at Webstock still surprised me.

Βλέπετε αν χάνουν οι προγραμματιστές και οι εταιρίες λογισμικού, χάνουμε κι εμείς.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland hits the theaters today in London, but it almost didn't thanks to some DVD release window controversy. But it's not what most of us would think—the studio, Walt Disney Co., wants to release the DVD earlier than usual, thereby shortening the release window between theater and disc. The theater hosting Alice's premier, however, is upset about the situation, prompting Disney to strike some last-minute deals in order to appease the lucrative box-office gods.

Disney announced during its earnings call earlier this month that it planned to bump up the DVD release of Alice by a month from the original plan, according to BusinessWeek. This didn't go over well with the UK's largest theater chain Odeon, which immediately announced that it would not carry the film "as a result of Disney's insistence on reducing at short notice the theatrical window for a major 3D title."

What's Odeon's problem? It doesn't want to lose out on a full month of box office sales—theaters fear that consumers will go straight to Blockbuster or Walmart and skip the movie-going experience altogether. In some cases, they could be right, but box office sales soared in the US in 2009 while DVD sales tanked. Nonetheless, Disney flew to London to strike a deal with Odeon, one of which included a limit on early DVD releases to just two or three per year.

Τώρα ξέρετε και επίσημα για πιο λόγο 10 χρόνια τώρα δεν είχατε ποτέ ταυτόχρονες κυκλοφορίες στον κινηματογράφο και στο DVD.

Όπως επίσης, τώρα ξέρετε ότι είναι πραγματικοί φίλοι σας εκεί στο Hollywood και στη βιομηχανία κινηματογράφου γενικά.

Το πρόβλημα πάλι δεν το λένε πιο είναι όμως. Γιατί είναι θρασύδειλοι. Απλά είναι τα πράγματα: Ξέρουν ότι είστε πρόβατα. Ξέρουν ότι το 90% από εσάς, αν όχι παραπάνω, δεν μπορείτε να καταλάβατε τη διαφορά της εμπειρίας του κινηματογράφου με το DVD (αφήστε με το Blu Ray -εκεί δεν έχετε καμία ελπίδα).

Οπότε σου λέει, κάτσε να έχουμε τα πρόβατα στον κινηματογράφο στα σίγουρα που εκεί έχουμε απόλυτο έλεγχο (πειρατεία, κλπ) και μετά τα δίνουμε να μασήσουν και τα DVD.

Βλέπετε εγώ μπορεί να σας λέω συνέχεια στα μούτρα σας ότι είστε ζώα, τούβλα, κλπ. αλλά αυτοί σας θέλουν έτσι για πάντα ενώ εγώ ΘΕΛΩ να ξυπνήσετε. Θέλω να αλλάξετε. Ελπίζω. Αυτοί ελπίζουν να μείνετε για ΠΑΝΤΑ έτσι.

There are certifiably good reasons to fear public speaking, but Scott Berkun, author and professional speaker, points out that at least, “we can’t say that public speaking is scarier than death.” That’s why it’s curious that public speaking is often listed with some of the worst human fears—along with sickness, death, elevators, heights, and snakes. But the truth is: No one has ever died (directly anyway) from giving a talk. In Berkun’s latest feat, a book titled Confessions of a Public Speaker, he untangles this fear for anyone who expects audiences to listen.

A government minister, not parliament, will decide on the maximum period for which people found guilty of illicit filesharing can have their accounts suspended if the Digital Economy bill becomes law.

Although the government insists that it would only implement "temporary suspension" of internet accounts of people deemed to have broken copyright law, it has not defined how long "temporary" is – and the definition does not appear in the bill now before Parliament.

Instead, the secretary of state at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (DBIS) will decide on how long it should be, based on a recommendations from the Ofcom, although the regulator's suggestions are not binding.

Presently, the person responsible would be Lord Mandelson, who has been particularly vociferous about the need to take action against persistent illicit use of the net.

The only brake on the "temporary" suspension being of unlimited length would be the Human Rights Act – whose applicability to internet access is untested – and the definition offered by DBIS was that "temporary suspension can't effectively mean termination of an internet connection". But there is no definition in the bill of what marks the legal difference between "suspension" and "termination".

On Monday the Guardian noted that Downing Street had responded to a petition calling on it to reject plans to disconnect people found guilty of illicit file sharing by saying: "We will not terminate the accounts of infringers ... [but] ... We added account suspension to the list of possible technical measures which might be considered."

The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (DBIS) on Tuesday said that "suspension" meant "temporary suspension".

But the Open Rights Group said that this was "semantics" and that the government had simply chosen a different form of words to mean the same thing.

Η Micro$oft μοιράζει τα προσωπικά σας στοιχεία

Microsoft (MSFT) sent a letter to whistleblower site Cryptome demanding it take down a leaked copy of the company's "Global Criminal Compliance Handbook".
The document is a guide for law enforcement agencies explaining what private data Microsoft stores, and how law enforcement should go about requesting it. Cryptome has published similar guides from Facebook, AOL, Skype, and other tech companies.

Demanding Cryptome take the do down, Microsoft is asserting that the document is copyrighted material under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The tech giant has successfully spooked Cryptome's host, Network Solutions, which has threatened to disable the site if the document is not taken down by Thursday.

Law enforcement needs search warrants or court orders to access any of this data, and Microsoft is legally required to comply with such requests. But it is not required to provide extensive details about what is stored how to governments while keeping that information hidden from users. Many companies make their compliance policies public. Others take it on the chin when their private policies become public.

Using a bogus copyright claim to try to keep users in the dark about what it's doing with their data is inexcusable.

Apple is a strange and dastardly company which, sooner rather than later, we’re going to regret pledging our allegiance to.

The latest bit of no-good business is its arbitrary censoring of iPhone apps. This may be piddling, but it’s obviously part of the major control-freakishness that has always lurked below the surface in Cupertino, but which has now become broad-based corporate policy.

The iPhone itself is a beautiful tool, locked up tight and full of draconian protocols—with a little AT&T sado-masochistic abuse thrown in for good measure.

Just weeks ago there was the iPad rollout and its transparent designs on controlling the woe-begotten world of printed material.

And need we forget, there’s the music business, fully occupied and colonized by Apple.

And Steve Jobs himself, the ever-weirder figure, living—unless he has, actually died—in some stratum apparently far above securities laws.

Why do we put up with this?

Και το χειρότερο απ' όλα; Είναι κακές αντιγραφές που στέκονται μόνο στο φαίνεστε και όχι στο είστε. Μέχρι εκεί σας κόβει οπότε κι εγώ σας εύχομαι με μία Micro$oft ΠΑΝΤΑ στη ζωή σας!

Όχι τίποτα άλλο αλλά λυπάμαι που δεν μπορώ να σας ευχηθώ, στα χειρότερα! Γιατί χειρότερο από την Micro$oft ΔΕΝ υπάρχει ;(

Το Flash δεν κάνει κακό στην πληροφορική;

It appears that there has been some confusion from the community at large surrounding battery performance. This was caused by my colleague Michael Chaize publishing an amazing video of Flash Player 10.1 demos on Vimeo.

Bloggers from Daring Fireball and Macgasm have spent a little more time than expected studying the battery indicators, as opposed to the incredible advancements in web browsing for mobile phones, netbooks and tablets. To be clear, the battery indicator changes being discussed are a function of video editing and Android design.

Typically these indicators are 4 step graphics, so the indicator will drop by one step for every 25% battery used. If Michael shows his phone with 50% full then this could be 51% in reality, using ~2% would then appear like a 25% loss. It’s just a graphic, and below Michael has provided more concrete results from the phone management UI.

Απευθείας δηλαδή το ρίχνεις ΚΑΤΩ από το 50% της διάρκειάς του και πας να μας την πεις και από πάνω;

ΑΝΤΕ ΒΡΕ ΚΟΛΟΖΩΟ πήγαινε να γλείψεις τον Steve Ballmer και κάνε μας την χάρη. Χαμένα κορμιά της ΔΗΘΕΝ πληροφορικής.

Και να σου θυμίσω και κάτι ακόμη επειδή είμαι στις καλές μου... Στα τεστ σας βάλατε H.264 βίντεο που είναι συμβατό με τα πάντα και ΔΕΝ χρειάζεται το άχρηστο Flash ΛΙΓΟ μυαλό να έχει κάποιος. Όπως ωρύεστε ΟΛΟΙ στην Adobe για το άχρηστο το Flash σας, το Διαδίκτυο δεν είναι γεμάτο από H.264 περιεχόμενο, σωστά;

Ή το H.264 δεν έχει καμία σχέση με τις άπειρες άχρηστες εφαρμογές, παιχνίδια και διαφημίσεις στο Διαδίκτυο, σωστά πάλι; Ξαφνικά τι έγινε; Άλλαξαν οι απόψεις σας; Ή προσπαθείτε να πείσετε τα ζώα εκεί έξω ότι το Flash αξίζει; Μα πόσο ΖΩΑ είστε και μας περνάτε όλους;

Φτιάξατε την κοινωνία κατ' εικόνα και κατ' ομοίωση σας αλλά για κακό δικό σας μερικοί ΕΥΤΥΧΩΣ δεν σας μοιάσαμε!

Η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση θα πάει την Google στα δικαστήρια;

The European Union has opened an antitrust investigation into Google to look into claims made by three European-based Internet companies. Not surprisingly, this key part of the investigation is said to be about search, which is dominated by Google is most of the EU markets. The Telegraph and WSJ have more details.

It’s important to note that this probe is just a preliminary one, and nothing may come of it. But at least three companies have filed complaints against Google — and notably, one of them is owned by Microsoft. And another one is a member of a group that is partially funded by Microsoft.

This is, of course, quite interesting since Microsoft has famously been involved in antitrust investigations for over a decade now in Europe (and previously, of course, the U.S. too). In fact, this whole browser ballot thing is a result of the ongoing EU attempt to make sure Microsoft is playing fairly.

Ciao (which is now called Ciao Bing) is the Microsoft-owned German shopping site making one of the complaints. Microsoft purchased them in 2008 for nearly $500 million. The others are Foundem, a UK-based shopping site, and EJustice.fr, a French site that does legal search inquiries. All three are claiming that Google’s search dominance is hurting their businesses. And Foundem is claiming that Google has placed a “search penalty” on its site, which has crippled it.

Something else interesting, as The Telegraph notes, “Foundem is a member of ICOMP, an internet pressure group which receives funding from Microsoft.”

This could get ugly.

Update: Here’s a post on Google’s Public Policy Blog. Not surprisingly, Google makes quick note of both Ciao and Foundem’s ties to Microsoft.

Άντε βρε καημένη Micro$oft. Πήγαινε στα δικαστήρια την Apple και το Linux. Άντε κουνήσου! Τι; Μόνο την Google; Άντε! Άντε και την Apple και το Linux. Να έχει ακόμη πιο πολύ γέλιο!

Το έχω πει εδώ και πάρα πολλά χρόνια και θα συνεχίσω να το λέω: Η Micro$oft μετράει μόνο στις αγορές που τα ζώα κάνουν κουμάντο. Όπου υπάρχει κουκούτσι μυαλό, δεν πουλάει η Micro$oft. Στην καλύτερη, κλέβουν τα προγράμματά της και τα τρέχουν κάτω από Mac και Linux πλατφόρμες που και αυτό για μένα ΠΑΛΙ είναι μια μεγάλη ηλιθιότητα!

Περαστικά σε όλους όσους χρησιμοποιούν Micro$oft λογισμικό και υπηρεσίες.

Η Apple πρόκειται να δημιουργήσει νέα προϊόντα;

With the launch of Apple's tablet a mere few weeks away, we can already start looking at other platforms which Apple may aim its new processor architecture.

Apple, in a job posting last week, advertised for an "Engineering Manager (Platform Bring-Up)" which states that Apple is taking their iPhone OS and putting it on new platforms:

The Core Platform team within Apple's Core OS organization is looking for a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms. The team is responsible for low level platform architecture, firmware, core drivers and bring-up of new hardware platforms. The team consists of talented engineers with experience in hardware, firmware, IOKit drivers, security and platform architecture.

Which platforms? There are so many. As TiPb points out today, the biggest no-brainer of them all is AppleTV. With the iPhone OS and a Apple's own processors, the AppleTV could be made into something much smaller and cheaper. AppleTV has been whittled down to one 160GB version which hasn't seen much action lately.

Η αλήθεια είναι πως κανείς δεν ξέρει. Το μόνο σίγουρο είναι ότι αυτό που ξεκίνησε η Apple με το iPad πρόκειται ΠΟΛΥ γρήγορα να περάσει σε όλη τη βιομηχανία της πληροφορικής. Κοινώς, στα πάντα που αφορούν τον μοντέρνο τρόπο ζωής της Δυτικής κοινωνίας και όχι μόνο.

Όπως επίσης και το άλλο σίγουρο είναι ότι η Apple έχει ένα από τα καλύτερα R&D στον πλανήτη και τα περισσότερα R&D προϊόντα ΔΕΝ τα βλέπουμε ΠΟΤΕ!

Μπορούμε να ελπίζουμε όμως ;)

Micro$oft Natal = Κλάιν Μάιν

Microsoft was showing off Project Natal last week in New York. It was nothing new, just the familiar hand ball game that was demoed at E3 last year, but it did give me an opportunity to get a closer look at the progress that's been made since last summer. Specifically just how close the motion capture is to real life (which is something that Kotaku discussed today). I brought with me a trusty stop watch so you can get an idea as to how long it takes for your movement to be recreated on-screen.

I had a pretty large sample size, sitting through 5 demos, capturing about 40 different movements from a variety of journalists. Across those 40 movements, the fastest life-to-screen transition was .08 seconds, while the slowest was .12 seconds. A tenth of a second was the consistent average, though.

What that means is that, in its current state, Natal is not instant, one-to-one motion capture. It's close, very close, but once you start playing you'll undoubtedly notice a tiny delay. It's to be expected, certainly. Even high-end Hollywood studio motion capture devices have a slight delay, and a camera sitting in front of your TV doesn't come close to the fidelity of 30 cameras in a massive studio.

Interestingly, it would appear that the demo being shown in New York is identical to the one shown at E3, right down to the delay. I wasn't allowed to film the screen, but this exclusive CNET video from last August does feature person-and-screen footage and it gives a great sense of what you can expect, delay-wise. Ψιτ; Και που είστε ακόμη. Πόσα πράγματα ακόμη θ' αλλάξουν μέχρι την κυκλοφορία της σαβούρας του Natal για την σαβούρα το XBOX 360. Ακόμη δεν είδατε και δεν ακούσατε τίποτα!

Και όλα αυτά για τις δικαιολογίες σχετικά με το πως το Nintendo Wii είχε κάποια από τα προβλήματα του Natal ΜΗΝ μπερδεύεται τις βούρτσες με τις μπιπ-μπιπ...

Το XBOX 360 + Natal όχι μόνο θα είναι πολύ πιο ακριβό από το Nintendo Wii αλλά επίσης θα είναι και πολύ νεώτερο τεχνολογικά έτσι και αλλιώς.

Αλλά κλασσικά επειδή μιλάμε για την Micro$oft, νέες και ακριβότερες τεχνολογίες = χειρότερες από τις προηγούμενες (βλέπε ΟΠΟΙΑΔΗΠΟΤΕ έκδοση των Windows σε σχέση με το Linux).

Α! Και το πιο σημαντικό απ' όλα! Το Nintendo Wii είναι πραγματικότητα εδώ και χρόνια ενώ το Natal ΘΑ γίνει ΚΑΠΟΙΑ στιγμή ΚΑΠΩΣ πραγματικότητα... Κανέναν δεν χαλάει που πριν από χρόνια (το 2005!!!) ΠΟΛΥ πριν την κυκλοφορία των τότε νέων παιχνιδομηχανών είχα προβλέψει το πόσο ανώτερο θα ήτανε το Nintendo Wii (με κωδικό όνομα Revolution).

Έτσι! Για να θυμούνται οι παλιοί και να μαθαίνουν οι νέοι! Άντε γιατί Α! Μαμούνια!

Τέλος, αν θέλετε να ξέρετε, η ανώτερη λύση από το Nintendo Wii θα είναι η αντίστοιχη λύση της Sony στο PS3. Βέβαια επειδή είστε τρομπόνια θα τα σκάσετε στο Natal ώσπου μια μέρα θα ξυπνήσετε και θα πείτε: Θέε μου! Πόσο ζώον είμαι! Τα 'λεγε αυτός ο παλιοMac Culturist, ο καταραμένος αλλά...

4:10 Q&A begins. Steve Jobs was very clear about leadership in mobile devices. Is that how we should think about Apple at this point? Tim Cook: Yes. Let me elaborate. If you look at Dec. quarter results, which included revenues of almost $15.7 billion, as we compared ourselves to every other company in the world, including Sony and Nokia and Samsung, which now have huge mobile device businesses, we found out we were the largest in the world, measured by revenues.

4:11 How are you channeling resources differently? Transition to mobile devices began in 1991 with first introduction of portable product for Apple with introduction of the TFT screen. During that time, the Mac business has become a predominantly mobile device business. Huge difference between us and the balance of the industry in portable share.

4:12 Ah, a history lesson. Going through all the mobile devices Apple has ever launched. Vast majority of Apple's revenue now comes from mobile devices and content purchased for those devices. Believe we're well positioned to do extremely well because we can seamlessly offer software and hardware.

4:13 Who are biggest competitors and who are biggest partners? Tim Cook: I wish the world were that simple. Many people you can't cleanly put in one or another. Take Microsoft. In Microsoft, we love the Mac Office division. They do a great product and we partner with them and work with them very tightly. Most of the balance of Microsoft we compete vigorously against, in OS, in mobile OS, etc. If you look at Google, I would say Google is similar in that respect. We partner with them in maps, in search for most of our products, but we also compete with them in the mobile OS space and now in the hardware phone space. So, it's difficult to put people in one camp or the other always. There are some companies like the media companies where we partnered with so well that Apple is now selling billions of dollars of digital content.

4:15 Also companies like carriers where we partnered with to bring iPhone to in 86 countries. Ones that draw the most attention are the ones that are more complex, where we're both competitors and partners.

Και το YouTube επίσημα παρατάει τον Internet Explorer

The end is nigh. We’ve known this was imminent, but come March 13, 2010, YouTube will no longer officially support Internet Explorer 6.

Ars Technica found the specific date buried in a YouTube Help item pertaining to browser support. Under the section header, “When does older browser support end for YouTube and what does this mean?,” it reads:

“Support stops on March 13th. Stopped support essentially means that some future features on YouTube will be rolled out that won’t work in older browsers.”

The support entry also details that Google’s YouTube will notify site visitors of the change in browser support by displaying an interstitial every two weeks — indefinitely until the user upgrades — that will serve as a very blatant visual reminder and encourage IE6 browsers to upgrade accordingly.

The interstitial (as seen below) will appear in place of the video in question and warn, “On March 13, we are dropping support for your browser. You’ll still be able to watch videos after that date, but new features may not work properly.” The interstitial also suggests alternative browsers — Google Chrome, Opera 10, IE8, Safari 4 and Firefox 3.6 — in lieu of IE6.

Of course we already know that effective March 1, 2010, Google will begin to phase out support for IE6 in Google Docs and Google Site. Now we can add another Google product to the March IE6 phase-out strategy.

Google is not alone in its mission to kill off the antiquated browser; various governments and the web as a whole have united against the browser due to its inflexibility (supporting the browser is becoming more of a challenge) and potential security risks.

Κινέζος μάγκας τα κάνει γυαλιά-καρφιά στην Δύση

U.S. authorities have tracked down the hacker who wrote the code behind the attacks on Google last month.

The man is a freelance security consultant with ties to the Chinese government and military. The Chinese government had access to his work, although the man stated he "would rather not have uniformed guys looking over his shoulder, but there is no way anyone of his skill level can get away from that kind of thing," according to one analyst.

This development makes it even more difficult for the Chinese government to deny involvement in the attacks.

The hacker, if he can even be called such, posted bits of his code to a hacking forum as a work in progress. Although this man did write the code, which exploited a security loophole in IE6, he does not work full-time for the government. He didn't launch the attacks himself, and the U.S. cybersecurity team that tracked him down said that he didn't want his work to be used for attacks of this nature and magnitude.

The spyware's launch was traced to computers at Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School, the first of which counts former government cybersecurity experts among its staff. Both institutions have denied involvement in the attacks.

As U.S. officials continue their investigation, cybersecurity folks and others familiar with the situation wonder at how this series of attacks positions China in the international sphere. Does this news signal the beginning of a new East v. West cold war? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Τη μια μέρα μιλάει ο Bruce Willis και την άλλη τον θάβουν όλοι γιατί λέει κατάστρεψε έναν από τους καλύτερους χαρακτήρες σε ταινίες δράσης και απλά το Die Hard 5 θα είναι το χειρότερο απ' όλα.

Μάλιστα. Δηλαδή ότι τον νοιάζει τον άνθρωπο ΑΠΛΑ εμείς να περνάμε καλά γελώντας με τις ταινίες του αυτό δεν είναι σημαντικό ε;

Αλλά έτσι είναι. Είστε σχιζοφρενείς! Κάνει πχ. ο Sylvester Stallone μια ταινία δράσης που προσπαθεί να είναι σοβαρή και σας χαλάει. Κάνει μια ταινία δράσης πχ. ο Bruce Willis που προσπαθεί να είναι χαβαλέ και πάλι σας χαλάει. Δεν ξέρετε τι θέλετε ρε. Τρομπόνια.

Πολύ καλά θα κάνει να βγάλει Die Hard 5, 6 και 110. Να είναι καλά ο άνθρωπος να βλέπουμε καμιά χαβαλέ ταινία, γιατί αν αφήσουμε τα πράγματα σ' εσάς, θα βλέπουμε όλοι Reality Shows και λοιπές αηδίες από το πρωί μέχρι το βράδυ, Twilight Saga νούμερο 1568 και Facebook Operating System.

Γαμώτο! Πάει το Rolling Stone;

Someone wake up the domain name admin at Rolling Stone — its website is currently rendering a Network Solutions landing page indicating that the iconic music magazine’s website is “coming soon.”

Typically, this is the type of page you see when someone has registered a domain name but not yet created a website for it. It’s also what you’ll see if a domain name has expired but has not yet officially been put back on the open market for anyone to register.

This has some speculating that Rolling Stone forgot to renew its domain name, though WHOIS records indicate that its registration is valid through September of next year. One of our commenters notes that it could also be a DNS problem or Akamai issue.

We imagine the problem will likely be resolved fairly quickly (though it typically takes time to resolve on everyone’s connection), but here’s a screenshot of the page that will live in DNS admin infamy and might get someone fired:

Τελικά ήξερε η Google και το ονόμασε Buzz!

Like many parents, I try to take steps to keep my kids safe online, making sure that they understand not to share personal information online, or even to use their real names. They know how to write appropriate emails, and I constantly monitoring what they do, the emails they send, and most importantly, engaging in a constant dialog with what they are doing online.

But when I logged into my Google Buzz account this evening, I found that my 9 year old daughter had posted the following:

Pretty innocuous, but it was PUBLIC! I saw it because Buzz conveniently made me a follow of hers. I pride myself on staying ahead of my kids, but this time, my kid got ahead of me. She used Buzz without fully understanding that what she thought was a private conversation with her friends was in fact very much public.

Fortunately, this was her only Buzz posting. But what was most disturbing was looking at her friends’ conversations and realizing that some of them were chatting with complete strangers, and in some cases, sharing personal information like emails. Absolutely terrifying as these are 4th graders who have no clue.

I quickly turned off Google Buzz, (but I didn’t totally disable it, more on that below), dashed off an email to the parents of the friends she had been chatting with inside of Buzz (again, all in public, with their real names), and then finally took a long hard look at the situation.

First, I discovered that buried in Google’s terms of service somewhere is that children under the age of 13 are not allowed to have Gmail accounts. But unlike Facebook, which requires that people enter their birthdates when setting up accounts, Google makes no such attempt to educate people signing up for Gmail that such a provision is in place. As a result, while Google is absolved of responsibility because of the TOS, it could and should do a better job of complying with the Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). [UPDATE: Google does in fact ask for birthdate when signing up, and sends users who are under 13 to the FTC page about COPPA. Obviously, I violated Google's TOS by putting in MY birthdate and then giving account access to my child.]

Second, I think Google will have a second wave of privacy problems to address in Buzz. The easiest thing to do as a parent is to simply disable Buzz, meaning that the Google profile and all followers are deleted — permanently. But the reality is, my child has actually figured out how to use Buzz and seems to enjoy it – unlike most adult users of Gmail! But managing groups, privacy settings, etc. would be required for her to continue using it and I’m not confident as a parent that she’ll be able to figure all of that out. We’ll give it a try, but unless her friends also keep the conversation private, it will all be for naught.

So while I applaud Google for taking quick steps to manage the privacy backlash on Google Buzz, I think Buzz will bring to the fore the quiet reality that many people have enabled Gmail for their kids (and which Google loves because it ensures a new generation of Google devotees).

Without an overhaul and the addition of true parental controls in Gmail, this will remain a problem for Google, and a potential PR nightmare. Imagine parents (and kids) checking out their Buzz accounts to find that “iorgyinbathrooms” is following them, which is exactly what happened with my child’s account!

Does your child have a Gmail account? If so, have you talked to them about what Google Buzz is and how they should be properly using it? Please take action, which may be as dramatic as completely disabling Buzz on your child’s account. Do this as soon as possible, as I’m concerned that unsavory characters are already exploiting this parental control loophole.

“We designed Buzz to make it easy to have conversations with your friends about the things that interest you. Keeping kids safe online is very important to us. You must have a Google account to use Buzz, and we require all new Google account users to provide birthdates to keep children under 13 from signing up for accounts. Since we launched Buzz, we’ve listened to the feedback from our users and have made many product improvements to address their concerns. It’s still early, and we have a long list of improvements on the way. We look forward to hearing more suggestions and will continue to improve the Buzz experience with user control top of mind. Even as we roll out changes, we think it’s important to remember that there’s no substitute for parental supervision to keep kids safe on the Internet.”

Street Fighter IV στο iPhone

Capcom stopped by earlier today to give us a chance to test our mettle in next month's eagerly-anticipated Street Fighter IV for iPhone. We'll have our hands-on impressions with the portable puncher later, but for now, we've got the game's launch details, including the price and character roster.

When the game lands in the App Store next month, it will sell for $9.99 according to Capcom representative Michael Larsen. During our time with the title, we were able to scope out the 8-character roster. Making the cut for the iPhone iteration of the arcade hit are Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Street Fighter IV newbie Abel.

Apple VS Σεξ περιεχόμενο

Apple has started banning many applications for its iPhone that feature sexually suggestive material, including photos of women in bikinis and lingerie, a move that came as an abrupt surprise to developers who had been profiting from such programs.

Though Dirty Fingers was removed from Apple’s App Store, a Sports Illustrated app is still available, leaving app developers to wonder at Apple’s screening process.

The company’s decision to remove the applications from its App Store over the last few days indicates that it is not interested in giving up its tight control over the software available there, even as competitors like Google take a more hands-off approach.

When asked about the change, Apple said it was responding to complaints from App Store users.

Philip W. Schiller, head of worldwide product marketing at Apple, said in an interview that over the last few weeks a small number of developers had been submitting “an increasing number of apps containing very objectionable content.”

“It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see,” Mr. Schiller said.

Αναμφισβήτητα το να κρύβεις και να μην δείχνεις πχ. γυμνόστηθες γυναίκες όπως κάνανε δεκαετίες πριν και ακόμη κάνουν σε κάποια κράτη, δημιουργεί πολλά προβλήματα στην ανθρώπινη ψυχοσωματική κατάσταση. Αποδεδειγμένα αυτό.

Από την άλλη και πάλι, ο δήθεν μοντέρνος φιλελευθερισμός και όλα αυτά τα μπλα μπλα, μας έχει κάνει μήπως καλύτερους ανθρώπους; Αντίθετα περισσότερο από ποτέ, αποδεδειγμένα, ο κόσμος, χωρίζει, μαλώνει, δολοφονεί, κλέβει, ψεύδεται και γενικά κάνει εγκληματικές ενέργειες σε βάρος του και σε βάρος ΟΛΩΝ των συνανθρώπων του, περισσότερο από ποτέ.

Με λίγα λόγια, πραγματικά δεν ξέρω αν είναι καλό ή όχι να υπάρχει "πονηρό" υλικό σε ένα κατάστημα σαν το Apple iTunes Store αλλά πραγματικά, μπορεί κάποιος να μου πει αν βρίσκει εύκολα τσόντες βίντεο, περιοδικά, κλπ. στο σούπερ μάρκετ; Στην τηλεόραση; Στα περίπτερα; Στο διαδίκτυο; Μιλώντας ΠΑΝΤΑ για επίσημες πηγές και ΟΧΙ για πειρατικά πράγματα... Θα εκπλαγείτε αν καθίσετε και το ψάξετε με την απάντηση!

Σίγουρα πάντως στου κρεμασμένου το σπίτι δεν μιλάνε για σχοινί: Η πλειοψηφία των "μοντέρνων" ανθρώπων ΔΕΝ τολμούν να μιλάνε για σεξ ανοιχτά ΑΚΟΜΗ και μέσα στο σπίτι τους και ειδικά όταν εμπλέκονται και παιδιά στη μέση. Ακόμη και αν τα παιδιά είναι μέσα στην εφηβεία. Ακόμη και αν μιλάμε για τη σεξουαλική "διαπαιδαγώγηση" στα γυμνάσια και τα λύκεια αυτού του πλανήτη.

Οπώτε κυρίες και κύριοι, καλά θα κάνετε πριν κρίνετε τις ενέργειες της Apple (που μπορεί να έχει ή να μην έχει και δίκιο τελικά), να κρίνετε λίγο τον εαυτό σας, την οικογένεια σας και γενικά τι γίνεται στον κόσμο που ζούμε για το ΠΟΣΟ δήθεν τον έχουμε χτίσει και συνεχίζουμε να τον χτίζουμε...

I understand that most people associate open source with Linux. But there are quite a few solid applications for the Windows operating system, developed and maintained by the open source community. Oh sure, there’s OpenOffice and Firefox; but it doesn’t end there. I’m going to introduce you to 10 open source applications for Windows. You may never have heard of some of them or knew the port existed, but they’re definitely worth a look.

Η Αχίλλειος πτέρνα του ελεύθερου/ανοιχτού λογισμικού.

Αντί να επικεντρωθούν να κάνουν ΤΑ καλύτερα λειτουργικά και εφαρμογές αυτών σε Linux μόνο κάθονται και χάνουν χρόνο για τα Windows και Mac συστήματα. Και το χειρότερο απ' όλα είναι ότι κάνουν τις περισσότερες διανομές Linux να μοιάζουν στα Windows. ΌΧΙΙΙΙΙΙΙΙ άλλο κάρβουνο ρεεεεεεεεεεε!!!

Δεν λέω. Μας βολεύει πολύ αυτό εμάς τους χρήστες για το εδώ και τώρα. Δυστυχώς όμως έτσι χάσαμε και χάνουμε ένα καλύτερο Linux μέλλον.

Το έχω πει και θα το ξαναπώ το σενάριο επιστημονικής φαντασίας: Αν όλο αυτό το κίνημα φτάσει ή ακόμη καλύτερα, ξεπεράσει την Apple, ΜΕ ΤΗ ΜΙΑ θα πάω εκεί! Δυστυχώς όσο συνεχίζουν αυτή την κοντόφθαλμη στρατηγική, θα τους γράφει στα @@ τους όλος ο κόσμος :(

Πίσω στο άρθρο τώρα, τα 10 προγράμματα που αναφέρει, εννοείται πως δεν είναι τα καλύτερα που έχει να προσφέρει η κοινότητα του ελεύθερου/ανοιχτού λογισμικού και παραλείπει να αναφέρει τα πραγματικά ισχυρά εργαλεία.

Βέβαια αν το έκανε αυτό, βλέπετε, μπορεί κάποιος ΠΡΑΓΜΑΤΙΚΑ να απορούσε για πιο λόγο ακόμη χρησιμοποιεί τα Windows και το σαβουρολογισμικό τους. Κοινώς, μπορεί να τους άνοιγαν τα μάτια πραγματικά αντί για να τους ρίξουν καπνό και στάχτη όπως κάνουν εδώ και δεκαετίες...

Ο κόσμος λέει: η Apple τα σπάει!

Μέσα σε άπειρες εταιρίες από άπειρους κλάδους εκεί έξω και όμως:
Η Apple είναι τρίτη στην εξυπηρέτηση του πελάτη!

Τι να λέμε τώρα! Το πράγμα μιλάει από μόνο του εδώ στο BusinessWeek.

Δεν το λέω εγώ ή κάποιος παρακάτω στη γειτονιά σας. Το BusinessWeek λέμε, το λέει, λέμε!

Που είναι η Micro$oft κύριοι και κυρίες; Που είναι γενικά οι ανταγωνιστές της Apple;

Να σας πω εγώ που είναι:
ΣΤΑ ΤΣΑΚΙΔΙΑ. Εκεί που τους αξίζει.

Όχι τίποτα άλλο αλλά ο κόσμος το έχει τύμπανο κι εσείς κρυφό καμάρι! Όλοι ξέρουνε ότι μισούν τα Windows και γενικά τα περισσότερα πράγματα γύρω από τη σαβούρα της Windows "τεχνολογίας" αλλά αν είσαι μαζόχα ή ζώον, καλά να πάθεις.

Δε σε λυπάμαι και απ' ότι φαίνεται το ίδιο και ο κόσμος στο εξωτερικό.

Όπως έλεγε 10+ χρόνια πριν ο απίστευτος Harry Klynn:

Βλέπεις εσύ ήθελες να γίνεις "πολιτικός" αλλά αυτοί είχαν και έχουν ανάγκη από "βολευτές" να τους βολεύουν στις καρέκλες αυτούς και τα παιδιά τους. Όλοι έχουμε και πλέον δεν την κρύβουμε μία Κυρά Κατίνα μέσα μας.

Έτσι θέλει να φερθεί η Apple

I've bought a lot of Apple products over the years, even though I've been consciously choosing other alternatives the past few. Granted I've got a horse in this race, but here's how I would prefer Apple communicate:

Get your CEO to either talk, or not. Put some skin in the game, put your rep on the line with attributed statements. The lack of confirmation, denial, or clarification from Apple PR about rumored quotes from The Great Man is telling.

Can that "controlled leak" strategy. Stop relying on "inside sources" to float trial balloons like "Bing on iPhone". Deal honestly with partners and the public.

Let your employees speak. I've seen a few Apple staff bloggers and tweeters, but precious few, and even fewer of those speak about their work. When Adobe hosted the first iPhone DevCamp there were Apple employees who did not disclose their affiliation; when I attended MIX06 I saw Apple employees who said they worked for Yahoo! or other companies.

Urge your external evangelists to speak with attribution, and put their own personal rep on the line. The sheer number of pro-Apple comments filed under untraceable names like "ken" or "steve" does not, in a post-EllieLight world, inspire confidence. Urge your fans to avoid acting as marketing interns would.

Reduce the unprecedented contractual secrecy; let partners speak as freely as they speak of other initiatives in the industry.

Folks in Cupertino don't have to listen to me. I'm just going on-the-record here with how I'd prefer they act. It's their call what to do.

Ακόμη να μας δώσει Adobe Creative Suite 64-bit η Adobe και μιλάει για την Apple. Άντε στα τσακίδια ρε. Άντε στα τσακίδια.

Και η Amazon επίσημα στο κρεβάτι με τον Διάολο (Micro$oft)

Microsoft and Amazon.com have signed a wide-ranging patent cross-licensing agreement that provides each company with access to the other's patent portfolio. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but it was made clear that Amazon will be paying Microsoft an undisclosed amount of money as part of the arrangement. While Microsoft wouldn't say which of its products and technologies Amazon is interested in, Microsoft did mention that Amazon's Kindle, which employs open source and proprietary software components, as well as Amazon's use of Linux-based servers are covered.

Neither company would officially disclose why the deal was struck today. "We are pleased to have entered into this patent license agreement with Amazon.com," Horacio Gutierrez, Microsoft's corporate vice president and deputy general counsel for Intellectual Property and Licensing, said in a statement. "Microsoft's patent portfolio is the largest and strongest in the software industry, and this agreement demonstrates our mutual respect for intellectual property as well as our ability to reach pragmatic solutions to IP issues regardless of whether proprietary or open source software is involved."

Πολλοί μιλάνε για τον Steve Jobs και τον έχουν σαν Θεό. Ίσως να έχουν και δίκιο. Παρόλα αυτά έχει αποδειχτεί από την Pixar, από την Apple και από την Disney, ειδικά τα τελευταία χρόνια (από το 2003 αν θυμάμαι καλά) που είχε ΣΟΒΑΡΑ προβλήματα υγείας ο Steve Jobs, ότι ο άνθρωπος απλά έχει στήσει καλολαδωμένες μηχανές που τα σπάνε έτσι και αλλιώς.

Στη χειρότερη, στη μετά Steve Jobs εποχή, όλες οι παραπάνω εταιρίες του, θα είναι μέτριες ποιοτικά. Αυτό πάλι θα τις καθιστά δεκαετίες μπροστά από τον ανταγωνισμό. Γιατί με τα σημερινά δεδομένα είναι αιώνες μπροστά.

Goldman Sachs ή αλλιώς το Μεγάλο Αφεντικό

Goldman Sachs and other big banks aren't just pocketing the trillions we gave them to rescue the economy - they're re-creating the conditions for another crash

On January 21st, Lloyd Blankfein left a peculiar voicemail message on the work phones of his employees at Goldman Sachs. Fast becoming America's pre-eminent Marvel Comics supervillain, the CEO used the call to deploy his secret weapon: a pair of giant, nuclear-powered testicles. In his message, Blankfein addressed his plan to pay out gigantic year-end bonuses amid widespread controversy over Goldman's role in precipitating the global financial crisis.

The bank had already set aside a tidy $16.2 billion for salaries and bonuses — meaning that Goldman employees were each set to take home an average of $498,246, a number roughly commensurate with what they received during the bubble years. Still, the troops were worried: There were rumors that Dr. Ballsachs, bowing to political pressure, might be forced to scale the number back. After all, the country was broke, 14.8 million Americans were stranded on the unemployment line, and Barack Obama and the Democrats were trying to recover the populist high ground after their bitch-whipping in Massachusetts by calling for a "bailout tax" on banks. Maybe this wasn't the right time for Goldman to be throwing its annual Roman bonus orgy.

Not to worry, Blankfein reassured employees. "In a year that proved to have no shortage of story lines," he said, "I believe very strongly that performance is the ultimate narrative."

Translation: We made a shitload of money last year because we're so amazing at our jobs, so fuck all those people who want us to reduce our bonuses.

Most of the technologies that we have used in the past have been eclipsed by the remarkable technology that we use today.

Advances in their design have occurred in tandem with the advances in technology in this digital era, with many large products being redesigned and miniaturized into amazingly small sizes.

While we may laugh at the fact that anyone ever found this technology to be cutting-edge, we can’t discount its place in history as a forerunner for all of the technology that wouldn’t exist today without its dinosaur ancestry.

Neven Mrgan responds to my explanation of the “Facebook Login” phenomenon with disbelief (sorry for changing your < ol > to a < ul >, Neven, but it was the only way I could interpose my comments):

I understand the annoyance with Facebook Connect, but this doesn’t explain the facts I find the most amazing in this story:

- People google for “facebook login” to log in to Facebook. I understand that they don’t use bookmarks and don’t type in facebook.com, but note that they don’t google “facebook”; they google “facebook login”. Clearly users don’t even see logging in as a function of the site itself; those are separate in the users’ mental maps. This is perhaps partly explained by the excess of websites which use Facebook as their authentication system, but it’s not the whole story.

Many people have Google set as their homepage, or just go there automatically because “that’s where the internet starts.” The difference between the address bar and Google’s input field is lost on them. They’re both things where you type stuff to get places, and it takes a huge amount of sophistication to see past that superficial semantic equivalence. Want a Facebook login? Type that! Wherever! You’ll get there somehow, even if you have to click an extra link. Who cares?

The cognitive load of remembering where to type what is just not worth it to most people when it only saves you a single click (most of the time).

- They then click the small google result which says “News results: ReadWriteWeb” expecting they’ll be taken to Facebook.

Yes. People don’t read anything.

- They land on a page with an absolutely enormous heading saying ReadWriteWeb, below which is a headline, a byline, and endless paragraphs of what is even at the quickest glance obviously a news story.

Yes. People don’t read anything.

- They scroll all the way to the bottom of this completely un-Facebook-like page, with not a single thing in the way that would indicate this is a Facebook redesign.

Πόσα τέτοια έχω φάει στη μάπα από τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '80!;!; Θα μπορούσα να γράψω βιβλία και βιβλία... Εννοείται πως ΔΕΝ διαβάζει ο περισσότερος κόσμος στις μέρες μας. Γι αυτό είναι περισσότερα ζώα και τούβλα εκεί έξω από ποτέ. Μαλωμένοι με το διάβασμα σε βαθμό κακουργήματος. Μα τι λέω; Εδώ με το σεξ είστε μαλωμένοι. Σιγά μην σας άρεσε το διάβασμα.

BBC: Επερχόμενη Γενιά

The BBC website began its official life back in December 1997 with this very simple design.

It was a basic offering with two sections to the site. Over time it has grown to encompass a great deal more. However due to the organic way in which the website evolved and the old structure of the business, with dozens of small design teams working independently of each other, the site had a fairly schizophrenic nature once you delved into its depths.

About 2 years ago, after printing out the site onto what has now become jokingly known as the 'Wall of Shame' we decided to embark on an ambitious project, called Global Visual Language 2.0, with the aim of unifying the visual and interaction design of bbc.co.uk and the mobile website.

We created a new wider, centred page template to take advantage of wider screen resolutions and for the first time created an underlying grid.

We rationalised the hundreds of different banner styles into a new global and local branding and navigation system.

We discontinued the scores of different audio and video players and created a universal embedded media player.

And we redesigned the homepage creating a visual style that began to ripple through the site and onto the mobile platform.

We've lived with and loved the distinctly 'web 2.0' design for a while now and it's done us proud. However, time's moved on, and in autumn last year we decided it was time to resurrect the project.

Είναι λίγο παλιό και το έχασα κάπου μέσα στα αρχεία μου αλλά κάλιο αργά παρά ποτέ που λένε...

This is an open letter to the many companies who want to compete with the iPad. Sony, HP, the JooJoo people; all of them.

Dear Potential iPad Competitors,

We’ve all seen the media furore about the iPad, and we know that this day has been coming for a long time. There’s something natural and seductive about the idea of a tablet computer. Something to do with the form factor, portability, implied intuitiveness and non-computery quality of the thing. It’s straight out of Star Trek, and a lot of people want one in their lives.

I’m a little worried about you, though. Your usual tactic is to simply copy the industrial design of the most successful product, reduce the price, then adopt a pump and dump strategy until your next quarterly financials. That’s fine in itself; that’s how business works. I just think you’re misinterpreting both why people are excited about the iPad (even if they don’t realise it), and what exactly you need to copy. I think you might be on a dead-end track without even realising it.

I’m here to help you. I mean that genuinely. As you read the previous paragraphs, you were probably assuming I was speaking in a sarcastic, mean-spirited Apple fanboy tone – I assure you that’s not the case. Yes, I’m a Mac/iPhone/iPad developer and contractor, and I’m excited about the iPad, but I’m more excited by the general class of devices which iPad represents.

I don’t want Apple to be the only company who understands the potential and attraction of devices like these. I use an iPhone, but I’m glad that there are now many other touch-screen smartphones with polished interfaces, multi-touch capability, desktop-class web browsers and functionality-enhancing sensor hardware. A good idea is a good idea, and I’d like everyone to have access to it.

Competition is good, but only as long as it’s good competition. A flood of second-rate imitations doesn’t help anyone; not the customer, and not even your bottom line. The better you compete, the more marketshare you’ll have and the more choice the consumer will have. I’m trying to take a long-term view of this burgeoning market, because it’s the responsible thing to do given that I care about empowering people in general, rather than enriching one specific company (whichever company that might be).

So, let me tell you about a few areas in which I think you might have got the wrong end of the stick about iPad, and what you need to do to compete with it most effectively.

Μία πολύ δυνατή επιστολή που τα λέει αρκετά καλά αλλά πάλι ξεχνάει κάτι: Μέχρι ο ανταγωνισμός να καταλάβει τι έχει κάνει η Apple με το iPad, η Apple ήδη θα έχει κάνει το iPad 3+. Το πρόβλημα δεν είναι ο ανταγωνισμός να ανταγωνιστεί το iPad αλλά το τι θα κάνει το iPad 3. Τότε και μόνο τότε ΙΣΩΣ να καταφέρουν κάτι.

Τι πίνει και ευτυχώς δεν μας δίνει η Dell

Now Dell is getting its new tablet ready to sell. Mr. Thode says there’s plenty of room for Apple competitors when it comes to touch-screen gadgets — and he’s skeptical that the iPad will get the same public reaction as the wildly popular iPhone. “It’s really hard to kind of do the same thing over again twice or three times,” he said. Apple, he adds, is “going to have more competition here.”

Still, he’s cautious about predicting how the tablet market will develop, and what gadget will become the new must-have. “If anybody tells you they know exactly what’s going to happen here, they’re either Apple, or they’re smoking dope,” Mr. Thode says.

Άντε βρε βλακούληδες της Dell. Καπνίστε αυτά που καπνίζετε εδώ και δεκαπέντε χρόνια και μετά μιλήστε για την Apple και για τους υπόλοιπους.

Steve Jobs VS Flash;

On a recent trip to New York to woo newspaper publishers with demonstrations of the iPad, Steve Jobs met with staff at the Wall Street Journal. During the demo, editors asked about the iPad's lack of Flash support, to which Jobs replied, "We don't spend a lot of energy on old technology."

According to sources speaking to Valleywag, Jobs repeated the comments he made during a recent town hall meeting among Apple employees shortly after last month's introduction of the iPad. He reportedly told WSJ staff that Flash is buggy and crashes Macs, is a "CPU hog," and a source of "security holes." He also referred to Flash as dying technology, likening not supporting Flash on the iPad to Apple dropping support for floppy drives, ditching legacy data ports, and replacing CCFL backlighting with LEDs.

Adobe has made efforts to address the concerns about performance on Mac OS X, noting that Flash 10.1 should offer significant improvements (an area we are investigating further). That isn't likely to sway Apple, though, as Jobs recommending replacing Flash-based content with H.264 video, JavaScript, and other techniques. Such a move is doable, if not entirely "trivial" as Jobs suggested.

Για πείτε μου κύριοι και κυρίες των Windows, πότε είχαν τα Windows μηχανήματα, ΔΩΡΕΑΝ προγραμματιστικά εργαλεία για εφαρμογές των Windows, Windows Mobile, Zune, Tablet, κλπ; Μήπως η απάντηση είναι: ΠΟΤΕ;

Ενώ αντίστροφα για τα iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad και Mac είναι δωρεάν download από την ιστοσελίδα της Apple και στη χειρότερη με την αγορά ενός Mac;

Πότε στην αγορά των Windows ο τελευταίος τρελός προγραμματιστής από το γκαράζ του, είχε την ευκαιρία ΜΟΝΟ με 100 δολάρια το χρόνο, να βάζει εφαρμογές και παιχνίδια σε μια παγκόσμια διαδικτυακή αγορά, κερδίζοντας χρήματα για τα Windows Mobile, Zune, Tablets, κλπ; Μήπως ΠΑΛΙ η απάντηση είναι ΠΟΤΕ!;

Και για πείτε μου ζώα των Windows, πότε ΑΥΤΑ που κάνατε με τα Windows ήτανε συμβατά με τα διεθνή στάνταρτ του Internet (Διαδικτύου); Ποιον πάτε να ξεγελάσετε ρε; ΑΚΟΜΗ και σήμερα παλεύετε να ξεφορτωθείτε τον Internet Explorer 6 και τα Windows XP. Προϊόντα που ΟΥΤΕ η ΙΔΙΑ η εταιρία που τα έκανε ΔΕΝ θέλει να τα έχει πλέον στο μυαλό της όπως επίσης και τους πελάτες της που τα χρησιμοποιούν.

Τα ίδια και χειρότερα με την Adobe. Τα ίδια και χειρότερα με τους εαυτούς σας και τις πράξεις σας. Δεκαετίες τώρα.

Άντε στα τσακίδια και σεις και τα "ανοιχτά" προϊόντα, εταιρίες και υπηρεσίες σας.

Ακόμη και οι Linuxαδες παίρνουν μαθήματα από την Apple και σεις μας το παίζετε ιστορία. ΖΩΑ!
