Αυτό που μου τη σπάει με το VMWare και το Parallels είναι ότι έχουν φάει κόλλημα με τα Windows. Βρε παιδί μου. Κάντε κάτι και για το Linux. Έλεος. Π.χ. βγαίνει το 9.10 το Ubuntu από μέρα σε μέρα και αυτοί βάζουν υποστήριξη για την προηγούμενη έκδοση. ΕΛΕΟΣ!!!

World of Warcraft

Subscriber graphs that compare World of Warcrft to other MMORPGs are comical. Without separate scales it’s difficult to even see the competition clustered way down there by zero. Companies keep claiming they’ve developed the ‘WoW killer,’ but we should start coming to terms with the fact that bringing down WoW from the outside is no longer possible.

World of Warcraft now has 13.1 million subscribers if unofficial reports are to be believed, and that number can only go higher when Wrath of the Lich King is finally approved for release in China. Not only is it unrealistic to expect a developer to make a game that significantly diverges from WoW’s mechanics, but even if they did it wouldn’t matter.

Αναφέρει την παπαριά το AION το παραπάνω site και πριν προλάβετε να μου πείτε ότι εγώ λέω παπαριές και ότι το AION είναι καλύτερο παιχνίδι από το WoW, εγώ απλά θα 'θελα να σας ρωτήσω τι πίνετε και ευτυχώς δεν μου δίνετε.

Δεν λέω. Σχετικά ενδιαφέρον το site που σας υποδεικνύω. Απλά κάνει το ίδιο λάθος με όλους σας.

Το WoW και γενικά ΟΛΑ τα παιχνίδια της Blizzard έχουν κάτι που ΚΑΝΕΝΑ άλλο παιχνίδι τέτοιας κατηγορίας δεν έχει.

Τι είναι αυτό;

Τα Κερασάκια.

Το WoW έχει τόσα πολλά κερασάκια, που απλά, για να τα καταγράψει κάποιος, θα πρέπει να κάνει ειδικά sites.

Και τι έχουν όλα τα κερασάκια από κάτω τους;

Τούρτες.

Έτσι λοιπόν κύριοι και κυρίες τους νικάει όλους η Blizzard. Με τούρτες και κερασάκια.

Θα σας δώσω ένα κερασάκι:
Fight Club

Πολύ απλά. Τα παιχνίδια της Blizzard είναι εμείς. Είναι κομμάτια μας. Δεν ΥΠΑΡΧΕΙ περίπτωση να βάλεις ΟΠΟΙΟΝΔΗΠΟΤΕ μπροστά στο παιχνίδι και να μη δει τουλάχιστον 100 πράγματα που θα τον κάνουν να σκεφτεί:

WOW! Δεν το πιστεύω.

Το μόνο που θα έχετε εσείς να του πείτε τότε είναι να του θυμίσετε ότι παίζει ένα παιχνίδι που λέγεται WoW. Τι περίμενε; ;)

Πραγματικά. Το WoW ειδικά είναι ένα παιχνίδι που ΟΛΟΙ θα πρέπει να παίξουν από το πρώτο μέχρι το τελευταίο επίπεδό του.

Όσο για τις Κατίνες που λένε ότι τα βίντεο παιχνίδια είναι για παιδιά ή ότι είναι σαν τα ναρκωτικά και άλλα τέτοια τους έχω γραμμένους. Προτιμώ να πιστεύω και να πράττω το τι είπαν κάποιοι πιο ψαγμένοι από αυτούς, όπως πχ. τον Πλάτωνα:

Και ΑΥΤΟ κυρίες και κύριοι είναι ο λόγος που δεν ασχολούμαι με ανθρώπους που δεν παίζουν και ειδικά με τους συνανθρώπους τους (MMORPG).

Droid; Ποιο Droid;

Even though the wireless unit of Verizon Communications started an aggressive ad campaign for its new Droid handset that directly challenges the iPhone, Mr. Seidenberg, Verizon’s chief executive, said he would be delighted to sell Apple’s smartphone.

“We obviously would be interested at any point in the future that they would be interested in having us as a partner,” Mr. Seidenberg said in a conference call Monday to discuss Verizon’s third-quarter earnings. “This is a decision that is exclusively in Apple’s court.”

Indeed, a J. D. Power & Associates survey found that Windows Mobile had the lowest satisfaction rating among customers of any smartphone operating system. The iPhone has by far the most satisfying software, the study found. Android is a distant second, followed closely by BlackBerry’s operating system.

Windows Mobile scored below average on every attribute, said Kirk Parsons, director of the study, especially in ease of operation, speed and stability.

Ά... Και για να μην ξεχνιόμαστε... Η συνέντευξη ξεκινάει με τον γλύφτη "δημοσιογράφο" να λέει το πόσο επιτυχής ήτανε η φετινή χρονιά για την Micro$oft. ΑΝ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΔΥΝΑΤΟΝ. Από το τέλος του 2008 μέχρι και τον Οκτώβριο του 2009 η Micro$oft έχει τα ΧΕΙΡΟΤΕΡΑ οικονομικά της αποτελέσματα σε ολόκληρη την ιστορία της!!!

Φαίνεται βρε παιδί μου από την αρχή το πόσο σοβαρή και αληθινή είναι η "συνέντευξη".

Όπως λέει και ο σοφός λαός μας:

Το ψάρι βρωμάει από το κεφάλι.

Από την ίδρυση της Micro$oft ένα από τα 2 κεφάλια είναι και ο Steve Ballmer. ΜμμμΠΕΕΕΕ...

Άλλο κορυφαίο σημείο είναι που δικαιολογεί τις χάλια πωλήσεις των Windows PC λέγοντας ότι είναι δύσκολη οικονομική περίοδος. ΤΙ ΜΑΛΑΚΙΕΣ ΘΕΕ ΜΟΥ. Προφανώς δεν έχει ακούσει για μια "μικρή και ασήμαντη" εταιρία που λέγεται Apple που σπάει το ένα ρεκόρ πωλήσεων μετά το άλλο στην ίδια δύσκολη οικονομική περίοδο.

Although Windows Vista may have caused vendors and users alike some amount of pain, it was all for a good reason. To take advantage of modern video cards, Windows needed a new graphics stack; to withstand the increasing malware onslaught, Windows needed to tighten security and make running as a regular user more comfortable. These changes were not made lightly; the break with the past was necessary to put the operating system on the same footing as its competition and to address long-standing, legitimate criticisms of the platform. Microsoft was never going to revert to a more XP-like operating system, no matter how desperately some cling to the old OS.

Όπως είχε πει και η Apple. Το πιο σημαντικό που πρέπει να ξέρουν όλοι για τα Windows Vista και 7, είναι ότι κάτω απ' όλα κρύβεται η βασική νοοτροπία της Micro$oft και του λογισμικού της. Άρπα κόλλα Windows τεχνολογίες. Δες τι κάνουν οι άλλοι και απλά καν' το χειρότερα και ακριβότερα. Εξάλλου τα πρόβατα θα τ' αγοράσουν.

SheepShaver is an open source emulator of PowerPC based Macintosh computers. using SheepShaver it is possible to emulate a Macintosh computer capable of running Mac OS 7.5.2 through 9.0.4. Ports of SheepShaver are available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. When SheepShaver is installed on a PowerPC based system, applications run at native speeds. When the emulator is installed on other systems, applications run at about 1/8 native speed. SheepShaver is considered a good replacement for the Classic Environment which is not available in the most recent versions of Mac OS X. Please note that SheepShaver requires the use of a ROM image and a copy of Mac OS.

If, like me, you still have an older application or document that you'd occasionally like to open, what can you do? I actually have three different approaches. For certain applications that won't run properly even under Classic, I have several ancient (by computer standards) machines that can actually boot into Mac OS 9. I also have two PPC machines that run Tiger and therefore have Classic. But all of that is a lot of trouble, because I'm not usually using those machines; I'm usually using my Intel-based Mac mini, and running Snow Leopard. But even there - even on an Intel machine, even under Snow Leopard - I can run an older Mac OS, enjoy my older applications, and read and edit my older documents, by using SheepShaver.

If digging through build trees for a Mac build of Chromium (the open source project behind Chrome) was more trouble than you wanted to go through, here's some good news for you: Google today announced availability of an official Google Chrome for Mac developer preview at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco.

The developer preview is based on the upcoming version 4 of Google's upstart browser, and it's important to note that although it's publicly accessible, it's still not quite a beta. Several versions have already been released for Windows, but none have been released for Linux or Mac OS X. This is the first time an official release—build 4.0.223.8—has been available for Mac OS X outside of nightly development builds.

So guess what, kids? Windows 7, for many users (especially in the educational space where the focus should be creating content and often isn’t tied to particular mission-critical software), is just another platform for their web browser. It’s a pretty platform, but so is Ubuntu. Android’s pretty slick, too. Opera Mini on my BlackBerry works like a champ. Safari on the iPhone is great. I’m really digging Opera 10 on my Mac.

Now, more than ever, Windows 7 hype aside, technologies other than your desktop OS will drive your computing experience. Maybe Windows 7 will be your desktop platform of choice. It’s a perfectly fine choice. However, as long as the alternatives allow your users to access the resources they need for learning and interacting, then they certainly don’t constitute “odd stuff.”

REDMOND, Wash. — Oct. 23, 2009 — Microsoft Corp. today announced revenue of $12.92 billion for the first quarter ended Sept. 30, 2009, a 14% decline from the same period of the prior year. Operating income, net income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $4.48 billion, $3.57 billion and $0.40 per share, which represented declines of 25%, 18% and 17%, respectively, when compared with the prior year period.

These financial results reflect the deferral of $1.47 billion of revenue, an impact of $0.12 of diluted earnings per share, relating to the Windows 7 Upgrade Option program and sales of Windows 7 to OEMs and retailers before general availability. Adding back the deferred revenue, revenue totaled $14.39 billion, a 4% year-over-year decline, and EPS totaled $0.52 per share, an increase of 8% over the same period of the prior year.

Η Apple δείχνει το μελλοντικό Internet

Apple has always been a leading innovator in terms of hardware design and OS improvements. Now they are leading the way by embracing next generation web technology by being one of the few websites to implement html5 video tags on a production website.

If you go to apple.com with a webkit powered browser (Safari/Chrome in Mac or Windows) and play some of the new videos promoting the new iMac and Magic Mouse, the videos are played using html 5 video tag. When you try to play the same video using IE or Firefox the QuickTime video player kicks. Even though the latest Firefox browser support html5 video tags, its implementation is limited to Ogg Theora, the video files on apple.com are MP4.

The video player using html5 tags under webkit browser looks very much like QuickTime X shipped with Snow Leopard. With non-webkit browser the video player buttons are distinctively different...

Having followed Microsoft's exploits since its inception, I can safely say the best anyone can hope for with Windows 7 is moderate success. For all of the fanfare surrounding the new OS, Win 7 is really just a Vista martini. The operating system may have two olives instead of one this time out, but it's still made with the same cheap Microsoft vodka.

Apple Reports $1.67 Billion Profit for Q4 2009, Most Profitable Quarter Ever

Apple today announced financial results for the fourth fiscal quarter (third calendar quarter) of 2009. Apple posted revenue of $9.87 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.67 billion, or $1.82 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $7.9 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.14 billion, or $1.26 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 36.6 percent, compared to 34.7 percent in the year-ago quarter, and international sales accounted for 46 percent of the quarter's revenue. The numbers represent the most profitable quarter in Apple's history and include record-breaking Mac and iPhone quarterly sales.

Using non-GAAP data, which eliminates subscription-based accounting for the iPhone and Apple TV, Apple would have had $12.25 billion revenue and $2.85 billion of net income. The subscription-based accounting used for Apple's official results parcels out income from iPhone and Apple TV sales over a 24-month period from the date of sale, whereas the non-GAAP results count the entire revenue from these sales in the quarter they were made.

Apple shipped 3.05 million Macintosh computers during the quarter, a unit increase of 17 percent over the year-ago quarter. The company also sold 10.2 million iPods during the quarter, representing 8 percent unit decline over the year-ago quarter. Quarterly iPhone unit sales reached 7.4 million, up 7 percent from the year-ago quarter.

"We are thrilled to have sold more Macs and iPhones than in any previous quarter," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We've got a very strong lineup for the holiday season and some really great new products in the pipeline for 2010."

Apple's guidance for the first quarter of fiscal 2010 includes expected revenue of $11.3 billion to $11.6 billion and earnings per diluted share of $1.70 to $1.78.

Q&A

Q: Factors involved in guidance for next quarter. Why is sequential jump so far below previous years? Why gross margin low?
A: Gross margin will decline for the following reasons: 1) New products have lower gross margins, with greater value to customers, 2) More lower-margin iPod sales in holiday quarter, 3) More air freight costs, 4) Higher component costs.

Q: Channel inventory for iPhone? Any supply constraints?
A: iPhone 3GS was low in inventory in most countries, did improve markedly in September and balance reached in most countries by September or early October. Have 2.4 million units in channel, up 585,000 from previous quarter. We'd like to have had more.

Q: Any thoughts on China iPhone expectations?
A: Thrilled to be launching on October 30th. About 1,000 points of sale, and will expand. Prices and plans already announced, with a wide range, including free phones at high plan price points. There were a lot of 2G and 3G iPhones that went into China, so there's obviously a large market there. No predictions on sales volumes though.

Q: Any thoughts on the economy?
A: We focus on Apple, and leave everything else to economists.

Q: How does iPhone pricing changes in countries that go from exclusive to non-exclusive?
A: Pricing is confidential, but we don't expect wholesale price changes when shifting to non-exclusive, although final customer pricing may changes.

Q: Forecasts of seasonality in iPhone sales? Why is tax rate projected to increase?
A: Very few September-to-December quarters to look at for the iPhone, so difficult to say. We're new at this. We've been surprised by iPhone 3GS demand. 64 countries right now, with plans for a few more: China, hopefully Korea, new carriers in UK and Canada. Tax rate was lower than expected this quarter due to high foreign sales. We expect it to come back in line with usual rates.

Q: Increased competitive intensity for iPhone in the holiday season...how do you maintain momentum and differentiation?
A: We feel great with how we concluded the year. Almost 21 million iPhones total for fiscal year. 85,000 apps in the App Store. Strong product pipeline. We feel very confident. People are still trying to catch up to the original iPhone, and we've long since moved past that.

Q: Mix of iPhone 3GS versus 3G?
A: Demand for 3GS did exceed expectations, so we did adjust our component orders accordingly. Obviously an intense appetite for Apple's latest technology.

Q: Mac business channel inventory and product mix?
A: Last quarter was the "quarter of the portable", up 35% over year-ago quarter. A result of the new line-up introduced in June, strong back-to-school sales, and Snow Leopard push. Channel inventory around 3-4 weeks, similar to beginning of quarter. Inventory changed less than 15,000 units over the course of the quarter.

Q: Snow Leopard installed base?
A: Snow Leopard upgrades were more than double those of Leopard over the first five weeks. We were pleasantly surprised.

Q: Any comments on long-term gross margin trend?
A: For the December quarter, we're guiding to about 34%. Don't want to forecast further out than that. Component costs are rising. We're committed to cutting-edge technology at price points our competitors can't match.

Q: If wholesale iPhone prices between exclusive and non-exclusive arrangements are the same, what are the benefits of iPhone exclusive agreements?
A: Level of innovation is easier with single carriers in some cases. Visual voicemail is an example. Also, exclusive carriers can be more motivated to make certain changes and enhancements to support the devices.

Q: Thoughts on retail store initiatives? International growth?
A: Strong results from remodeled stores...72 stores were remodeled this fiscal year and customers like the improvements. International stores seeing excellent performance.

Q: Will research and development costs rise due to expected 2010 product introductions?
A: Don't want to say too much. We've been investing in our future right along and have managed operating costs very well. We're being careful with money, making good choices, but continuing to invest confidently.

Q: Very strong average selling prices (ASPs) in iPhone and Mac. Usually down in this quarter due to back-to-school promos, so what's going on?
A: iPhone ASP just over $600 comes from high sales of 3GS and rebalancing channel inventory to support that demand. On Mac side, ASPs were up on the portables side. Very strong sales of the MacBook Pro line. Best back-to-school sales ever. Sequentially a small benefit to performance of the U.S. dollar as well.

Q: iPhone supply issues due simply to supply and demand or also component constraints? More air freight costs?
A: Demand outstripped supply, so that was the primary driver. That's a nice problem to have. But because of that, it did create some component shortages. Silicon is usually hardest to come by, but we were able to solve the bulk of these issues. Air freight issues not necessarily due to iPhone, but due to rushing products for holiday seasonality. Can't be specific about the products driving the increased cost this year though.

Q: Mac retail points of sale and performance?
A: Just under 13,000 worldwide channel outlets. Mac grew much stronger internationally than domestically this quarter, particularly in Europe. Spain very strong, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy 30-40+% growth.

Q: Any more details on capital expenditures?
A: In fiscal, we spent a little under $400 million on retail stores, $1.1 billion in total. Spending capital on facilities, infrastructure, and manufacturing. We've not been terribly capital intensive.

Q: Mac unit sales expected to be flat sequentially?
A: We don't give product-specific forecasts, but September quarter saw 50,000 education units from the state of Maine and strong educational promotions in general. Also Snow Leopard, and with every new OS, there is some pent-up demand. Also, demand for the new portables got the quarter off to a strong start.

Q: Can you forecast what iPhone sales would have been if you had been able to meet demand?
A: Hard to say. We were short just about everywhere throughout much of the quarter, but it's tough to say what would have happened.

Q: Still on track for 80 countries for iPhone by end of year?
A: Over 80 for the iPhone 3G, and we're at 64 for the 3GS. We expect to be in over 80 for the 3GS by the end of the year.

Q: Any thoughts on consumer versus enterprise for iPhone? Effect of Exchange support in Snow Leopard on the Mac side in the enterprise?
A: Enterprise sales very strong for iPhone. iPhone being deployed or piloted in well over 50% of Fortune 100. Similar results in Europe and the Financial Times 100. Over 350 higher education institutions have approved iPhones for their faculty, staff, and students. Also happy with government sales. As for Snow Leopard, I don't have any stats, as it's still very early. It clearly makes it very simple for Windows users.

Q: Updates on large government agencies using iPhone?
A: No specific updates, but we're very happy.

Q: Any thoughts on Mac education sales? You've been cautious about state budget issues, so what drove sales?
A: Individual student sales really helped our sales. On the institutional side, we're still worried about state funding issues. Little stimulus funding happening. Institutional increase of 12% was due to the order from the state of Maine.

Q: Projected air freight increase: what's driving that?
A: I can't be more specific than working to move units into position for the holidays.

Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty community manager Rob Bowling, also known as 'fourzerotwo', has confirmed in a podcast that the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will not support user-created mods. Worse, it will not support dedicated servers. PC gamers will have to suffer peer-to-peer connections, just like their console-owning cousins.

Mr. Bowling could offer no defence for this move, and simply stated that: "The team's focusing on having it very equal on every platform" and "We're doing a lot of work on the back end."

Previous PC versions of CoD have supported dedicated servers. Their absence will apparently make the game "much more accessible to the PC community as a whole."

Windows 7, 777 δωρεές στα Εφτά Σπίτια

Microsoft Netherlands is giving away 777 copies of Windows 7 to people who live in the small town of Zevenhuizen, which literally translates to "Seven Houses." They will be getting an English-language copy of Windows 7 Ultimate with a license code valid for one Windows PC. In fact, one of the requirements is that you must be in possession of a PC with Windows as the primary OS; those using mainly Mac OS or Linux can't participate. Another requirement is that the PC gets a green light from the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. Microsoft employees and those under 18 years of age not included.

Oct. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Nokia Oyj, the world’s biggest maker of mobile phones, had its first net loss since the company began reporting quarterly in 1996, hurt by costs related to a joint venture with Siemens AG and weaker demand.

The net loss totaled 559 million euros ($834 million), after a profit of 1.09 billion euros a year earlier. Sales declined 20 percent to 9.8 billion euros, missing the average estimate of 10.03 billion euros in a Bloomberg analyst survey. Analysts had anticipated a profit of 367 million euros.

The shares fell the most in three months. The Espoo, Finland-based company took a goodwill writedown of 908 million euros on its Nokia Siemens Networks venture and said the unit’s market share will drop more than expected this year as rivals slash prices. The company forecast an unchanged market share of 38 percent for handsets in the fourth quarter as consumers shun Nokia’s N97 smartphone in favor of Apple Inc.’s iPhone.

Turns out Acer President Gianfranco Lanci wasn't just idly boasting earlier Wednesday when he said his company would pass Dell in the PC rankings "very soon." By very soon he clearly meant "today."
IDC released its PC tracker report Wednesday afternoon for the third quarter of 2009 and for the very first time, Acer is indeed the No. 2 producer of PCs in the world, with 14 percent. Hewlett-Packard remained on top with 20.2 percent of PCs shipped, and Dell dropped to 12.7 percent.

So is this a good thing or a bad thing. Well, it’s good for AMD, and bad for NVIDIA, that’s pretty obvious. But what about consumers? Well, I’d hate to see a world without NVIDIA, because in a market with only one big player, things tend to stagnate, and prices tend to be higher than they could be. If you’re looking to buy a graphics cards (or buying a new PC) then NVIDIA exiting most of the GPU market is not a good thing at all.

Δεν υπάρχουν χειρότερα προϊόντα πληροφορικής από τις Micro$oft. ΔΕΚΑΕΤΙΕΣ τώρα. Αλλά εσείς εκεί. Τούβλα.

Thousands of accounts on web-based e-mail system Hotmail have been compromised in a phishing attack, software giant Microsoft has confirmed.

BBC News has seen a list of more than 10,000 e-mail accounts, predominantly originating from Europe, and passwords which were posted online.

Microsoft said it had launched an investigation.

Apple and AT&T have had an agreement since the launch of the App Store that limited VoIP applications to WiFi networks. But AT&T has now reversed that policy, announcing that VoIP apps on the iPhone are now welcome to operate over the carrier's 3G wireless broadband network. The change comes just a day after Vonage announced the availability of its own VoIP application that works over both WiFi and 3G networks.

"iPhone is an innovative device that dramatically changed the game in wireless when it was introduced just two years ago," said AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega in a statement. "Today's decision was made after evaluating our customers' expectations and use of the device compared to dozens of others we offer."

COPENHAGEN, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara warned on Wednesday the 2016 Olympics could be the last Games, with global warming an immediate threat to mankind.

Tokyo is bidding to host the 2016 summer Olympics with Chicago, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid also in the running. The International Olympic Committee will elect the winning candidate during its session on Oct. 2 in the Danish capital.

"It could be that the 2016 Games are the last Olympics in the history of mankind," Ishihara told reporters at a Tokyo 2016 press event ahead of the vote.
