Once again, it's Mobius time! Mobius is an invite-only event, hosted by Microsoft, where the invited guests are shown what Microsoft is doing in the mobile space. Full disclosure: Microsoft generously covers our flight and hotel expenses, and keeps us well fed during the event - though there are some attendees that pay their own way to get here, and pay for their own hotel. I'm not one of those people - if a company is willing to pay for me to fly out to see what they're up to, I'll take them up on the offer. It won't change my opinion about what they're showing me.

Αλήθεια! Μπορώ να καταλάβω τους βλακώδεις λόγους για τους οποίους κάνετε τόσο νταβαντούρι για την γκομενοταινία The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

Εξάλλου μιλάμε για τους ίδιους ηλίθιους πιθήκους που έχουν ξεσκίσει την Ελλάδα αλλά και την παγκόσμια πραγματικότητα στο όνομα του Εγώ.

Summit Entertainment’s vampire-romance sequel “ The Twilight Saga: New Moon” rung up a record $72.7 million in opening-day boxoffice on Friday, easily topping domestic rankings.

That bested a previous single-day boxoffice mark of $67.2 million, set by Warner Bros.’ Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” in July 2008.The first-day tally for “New Moon” included $26.3 million in boxoffice from a total 3,514 performances at 12:01 a.m. Friday, which set a record for witching-hour coin.

Ινδιάνοι 1915-1920

In the early 1900s, William Pennington and Lisle Updike spent most days traveling the four corners area of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona in a wagon photographing the people and landscapes. The pair of photographers were based in Durango, Colorado where they leased a small space on Main Street and operated a photography studio. They traveled to the mountains and photographed miners and townspeople and visited Native American Reservations and Pueblos making portraits of the people. Their partnership was short-lived and Pennington soon bought out Updike and took sole control of the studio.

These prints were recently uncovered by Denver Post librarians, tucked away in a folder in a file cabinet. The captions were hand written on the back of each print. Along with the prints, a page of the Denver Post newspaper showed that the prints were featured in the January 30, 1974 newspaper.

Good Karmic Koala aka Ubuntu 9.10

All distros have their fair share of technical problems and limitations. Ubuntu's Karmic release is no exception to this rule, but it's also not at all a failure. It still falls short of expectations in some ways—several of the new components, such as Empathy, leave a lot to be desired. Despite the problems, the release itself is a compelling incremental improvement over its predecessor and offers a lot of value to end users.

Of the bugs that I encountered during testing, the most annoying was the Empathy-induced Xorg freeze previously mentioned in this article. The issue was resolved quickly and in a satisfactory manner. Empathy is definitely the weakest link in Karmic and needs more time to mature. This problem is easily mitigated by installing Pidgin, which is still available from the repositories.

Ubuntu 9.10 offers a good desktop Linux experience, arguably one of the best that is available. It works great out of the box on an increasingly broad pool of compatible hardware. Canonical's embellishments—including the Software Center, the messaging indicator, the new notification system, and Ubuntu One—all show considerable promise but are still quite weak in a variety of ways. They could bring a lot of extra value to the distro as they mature.

Έλεγε η Micro$oft πριν κάνα χρόνο:

Microsoft expects sales of its Windows Mobile platform products will account for 40% of the global smartphone market in fiscal 2012 (July 2011-June 2012), according to Eddie Wu, managing director of Microsoft ODM embedded devices, Asia. The company is expected to accomplish its target of delivering 20 million Windows mobile platform products in fiscal 2008 (July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008), Wu asserted.

A federal judge rules in Apple's favor in the Psystar copyright infringement case.

Nearly a year and a half after a Miami company called Psystar announced that it was selling "Open Computers" pre-installed with Apple's (AAPL) Mac OS X Leopard — and 17 months after Apple sued Psystar for copyright infringement — the case has come to its all-but-foregone conclusion: a federal judge in San Francisco ruled Friday in Apple's favor.

"The material facts are not in dispute," Apple wrote in its request for summary judgment. "Psystar deliberately copies and modifies Mac OS X without Apple’s permission and in violation of the laws protecting copyright."

District Judge William Alsup agreed. At the end of a long preamble, he wrote:

"In sum, Psystar has violated Apple’s exclusive reproduction right, distribution right, and right to create derivative works. Accordingly, Apple’s motion for summary judgment on copyright infringement must be granted." (PDF.)

And so it went for Apple's secondary claims of contributory infringement and copyright misuse. Psystar's motions, meanwhile, were all denied. A hearing to determine remedies is set for Dec. 14.

Apple has several other outstanding claims, including breach of contract, trademark infringement and unfair competition. They could still go to trial, if Psystar has the stomach — and the funds — to persevere.

Εκτός από το ότι παίζετε τέτοια ανόητα παιχνίδια, διαλέγετε και τις άχρηστες εκδόσεις τους. Ή αλλιώς αυτό που λέγεται Windows έκδοση. Πάρτε ρε κατακαημένοι και κατακαμένοι καμιά κονσόλα XBOX 360 ή PS3 και χέστε μας με τα παλιοWindows.

The early reviews of this game were conducted at a hotel under Activision's supervision, using the console version of the game. The launch party in New York featured the 360 version of the game. We were sent the Prestige Edition of the game the day of release for coverage. Very few people at the company seem to care that yes, there is a PC port of the game.

Well, we care, dammit. Call of Duty came from the PC gaming scene, and it was there that it was popularized. Yes, consoles are now the dominant form of gaming from a financial standpoint, but it's sad to see a game that has such a rich history on our favorite platform feel so neglected in its newest incarnation. The port of the single-player campaign is strong; the game looks, plays, and feels incredible on a capable gaming PC. The Special Ops missions are perfect if you're in the mood for a teeny-tiny LAN party (although of course you'll both need Steam accounts to play), but the multiplayer offerings feel like Infinity Ward is trying to cram a round peg into a square hole.

It's not what we're used to, it's not what we want, and the changes made to the online matchmaking set-up and lack of dedicated servers negatively change the online experience. It's just that simple.

There is no easy verdict here, but I'm going to say skip the PC version. Why? The single-player is over quickly. The Special Ops missions are great but there are better co-op games out there. The multiplayer is going to be huge on consoles, but on the PC it's just crippled. There is a lot of fun to be had here, but there are way better ways to spend your money, especially with the $60 price.

Electronic Arts has taken the ax to hundreds of employees at locations in Burnaby, Orlando and San Francisco today, according to chatter from former EA employees, issuing layoffs the same day it confirms a buyout of social gaming publisher Playfish.

Said to be affected are EA's Tiburon and Black Box studios, located in Orlando, Florida and Burnaby, British Columbia, respectively. The Tiburon studio is responsible for EA Sports' Madden, NCAA Football and Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchises, as well as its upcoming mixed martial arts offering, EA Sports MMA. Black Box has been largely responsible for the publisher's Need For Speed and Skate series.

Both developers were previously affected by layoffs over the past year as part of a previously announced restructuring plan.

Also rumored to be affected are EA Redwood Shores' quality assurance team and Mythic Entertainment. Tweets from ex-staffers at those studios indicate "huge chunks" let go at the former, approximately 40% laid off at the latter.

SEATTLE - Microsoft Corp said on Wednesday it is cutting a further 800 jobs across its operations, on top of 5,000 jobs already eliminated under a plan to reduce costs that was announced in January.

A spokesman for the world's largest software firm said the latest job cuts are spread across the company's global operations, but about 200 are in and around its headquarters in Redmond, Washington.

Micro$oft + Linux = Micro$oft Linux; ΝΑΙ ΚΑΛΑ!

A lot of open source advocates like to rage against the machine at Microsoft, but when a former Microsoft Research employee says that Windows 7 won't stop Linux from market domination, that's an opinion to note. Keith Curtis, author of the book After the Software Wars, says just that. But he goes further. He thinks Microsoft and its customers would be better off if the company ditched Windows and instead built its own version of the Linux operating system.

"I think we could all be running Microsoft Linux. I sent an e-mail to Steve Ballmer about this and he said he wasn't interested," he quips, but is only partially joking. "Microsoft could very easily dominate the Linux market if they wanted to. I don't think they should release all their source code ... nobody would use it."

Καλά λέω εγώ είναι βλαμμένος ο Ballmer και απ' ότι φαίνεται δεν είμαι ο μοναδικός που είχε χρόνια τώρα την ιδέα του ότι η Micro$oft καλά θα κάνει να αγκαλιάσει το Linux και να παρατήσει την αηδία που λέγεται Windows με όποιον αριθμό ή λέξη γύρω από αυτά!

What should we call these iPhone-like, touch screen Wi-Fi phones with music and video, real Web browsers, e-mail, sensors (light, tilt, location, proximity), and, above all, app stores? These machines can download thousands of free or cheap add-on programs — “apps” — and become GPS units, musical instruments and medical equipment.

“Smartphone” is too limited. A smartphone is a cellphone with e-mail — an old BlackBerry, a Blackjack, maybe a Treo. This new category — somewhere between cellphones and laptops, or even beyond them — deserves a name of its own.

I invited suggestions on Twitter. The best came from @mentalworkout: “app phone.” Bingo. Apps distinguish iPhonish phones from mere smartphones, so “app phones” it is.

iCan't stand the Droid ad!!!

Verizon’s ubiquitous “iDon’t” commercial has been peppering TV for weeks now. It makes two conventional mistakes in advertising. It’s not clear that it’s an ad for the Verizon Droid phone, a remarkable new handset made by Motorola and the first phone to ship with Version 2.0 of the Google Android mobile OS. It’s clearly designed to compete against iPhone.

The second mistake? Its claims about the limitations of the iPhone are baloney.

Bad news for the Windows Modern Warfare 2

Yesterday's developer chat hosted by BestBuy has revealed more bad news regarding the PC version of Modern Warfare 2, which will hit the stores in under a week from now. After Infinity Ward's new multiplayer model and their decision not to incorporate dedicated servers lead to a massive discussion across the various community forums, the results of yesterday's chat session will no doubt put more fuel on the fire.

In a community chat session with Mackey McCandlish, Ryan Lastimosa and Vince Zampella of Infinity Ward it has become apparant that there will be no console in Modern Warfare 2, stating "we would like you to play the game the way we designed and balanced it" when asked about the possibility to change the fov, remove perks and graphical debris and tweak the weapons for further balance.

In addition, the chat revealed that there will be no record option (for now) in MW2, nor the option to kick players out of ranked matches. Furthermore leaning will not be possible and no decisions have been made regarding mod tools, although the developers have indicated they are currently focussing on launching the game, as they are currently still working on finishing the game. This also means there are no plans for releasing a demo.

Ευτυχώς που δεν είμαι ο μοναδικός που ξέρει κάποια βασικά για το ποιοι ήμασταν, είμαστε και που βαδίζουμε:
