Learn why one PCMag editor shelled out over $600 this morning for Apple's upcoming tablet and some extras, despite being underwhelmed by the announcement.
I did it. This morning, before finishing breakfast, I pre-ordered an Apple iPad. I even threw in a dock and a wireless keyboard. With taxes (because New York state needs a cut) that's $644.76 total. All that money, and I'm still left wondering if I'll actually get it on April 3 since I didn't pay extra for shipping.
Why did I order this thing? I already have a Macbook Pro and an iPhone. I even have a bright orange Samsung netbook that's not even six months old. What on earth is this silly slate going to do for me?

There have been a lot of Apple announcements since that time. All of them were sleep inducing, but every single presentation held the potential to be the one that would introduce a tablet computer that would change...everything.
