Ένας κούκος δεν φέρνει την άνοιξη

Μην τα βλέπετε. Καπνίστε τα!



Pittsburgh-based tattoo artist Cliff Maynard has an unusual medium that he works with: used joint ends!

“I was studying mosaics in school,” recalled the artist, “I just remember sort of making this connection in my head between the tiles and roach papers.” (Maybe he was stoned? I’ve heard it increases creativity…)

Initially reluctant to display his creations—which can take over 200 hours each to create—for obvious reasons, Maynard has turned out elaborate and quite beautiful THC-infused portraits of Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, John Lennon and Snoop Dogg. He’s even rendered a resin-flecked homage to Michelangelo’s “Creation.” He takes commissions and charges a reasonable $2,000 for an 8-by-10 portrait and more for larger pieces. Not bad, I say, due to the costs of his, er, “materials”!

Google VS Mozilla;

Asa Dotzler, Mozilla's director of community development, used his personal blog to urge Firefox users away from Google and to use Microsoft's search engine Bing, instead. Dotzler cited privacy concerns, specifically pointing to comments recently made by Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

"I think judgment matters," said Schmidt. "If you have something that you don't want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place." Dotzler then links to the Bing add-on for Firefox, stating that Bing's privacy policy is better than Google's (and notably fails to mention Yahoo at all).

Και μετά απορείτε γιατί έχει η Micro$oft το μονοπώλιο της ενώ έχει τα χειρότερα προϊόντα πληροφορικές εκεί έξω στις χειρότερες τιμές. Αφού τα ζώα οι αντίπαλοί της τρώγονται μεταξύ τους. Είναι ΖΩΑ λέμε. ΖΩΑ.

Μιλώντας για Mozilla. Ορίστε το ThunderBird 3

Mozilla Messaging announced on Tuesday the official release of Thunderbird 3, a major update of the popular open source mail client. The new version brings great improvements, including an impressive new search system and support for tabs in the user interface.

The Mozilla Foundation began forming the Mozilla Messaging subsidiary in 2007 with the aim of giving Thunderbird a chance to soar. The company brought in former ActiveState CTO David Ascher to direct the organization and set its technical agenda. After he took the reigns in early 2008, he began documenting his team's vision for Thunderbird 3, an ambitious update that would modernize the mail client in much the same way that the Firefox 3 release renewed Mozilla's browser. The roadmap included plans to adopt Gecko 1.9 so that Thunderbird could leverage important improvements that had been made to the underlying architecture of the Mozilla platform.

Πολύ καλή προσπάθεια και σαφέστατα ανώτερη από την αντίστοιχη λύση της Micro$oft. Βέβαια υπάρχουν πολλές λύσεις εκεί έξω ανάλογα το λειτουργικό σύστημα που γουστάρετε. Πχ. ένας browser με αποθηκευμένα 3-4 tabs με τους email λογαριασμούς σας ;)

Μιλώντας και για τη Micro$oft. Η M$ αγαπάει την Apple

Microsoft has cleared the air on a poorly translated quote by confirming that people have always been able to, and are still allowed to, use Apple products at their events. The source of the misinformation was supposedly a representative at a Windows Mobile 6.5 demonstration in Munich, Germany and the statements resulted in stories saying Microsoft does not allow the mention or use of Apple products at its events. "While we've been unable to confirm the specific exchange, it would not reflect our overall company policy and business practices," a Microsoft spokesperson told Ars. "Reporters and analysts are free to use whatever technology they wish in covering any Microsoft event, and always have been."

Δεν κατάλαβα δηλαδή. Συζητάμε τα αυτονόητα δηλαδή; Αν έχει δικαίωμα ο κάθε άνθρωπος να χρησιμοποιεί τα προϊόντα που αυτός θέλει; Βέβαια όπου υπάρχει καπνός υπάρχει και φωτιά. Ουκ ολίγες φορές οι ΙΔΙΟΙ οι ιδιοκτήτες της Micro$oft, ο Steve Ballmer και ο Bill Gates, δεν δίστασαν να κρύψουν την αντιπάθειά του σε χρήση προϊόντων της Apple και της Google από γνωστούς και αγνώστους ΑΚΟΜΗ και μέσα στην ίδια τους την οικογένεια. Με δημοκρατικές διαδικασίες γίνονται τα μονοπώλια κυρίες και κύριοι. Και σε τέτοιους μαλάκες εμείς τα ζώα δίνουμε τα χρήματά μας. Μπεεεε. Καλά να πάθουμε.

Όταν το YouTube τα κάνει πλακάκια με τους νταβατζήδες μας

Vevo, the spinoff of YouTube meant for professional music videos, has finally launched—with the usual sputter that comes with highly-anticipated website debuts. The site, which has been in the works since at least March of this year, is aimed at allowing the major record labels to put their stuff online on their own sanitized part of YouTube, outside the user-generated YouTube ghetto. Through this combined effort, all parties involved hope to make posting videos on the Web more profitable than it has been thus far.

Bottom Line: A titanic entertainment -- movie magic is back!
A dozen years later, James Cameron has proven his point: He is king of the world.

As commander-in-chief of an army of visual-effects technicians, creature designers, motion-capture mavens, stunt performers, dancers, actors and music and sound magicians, he brings science-fiction movies into the 21st century with the jaw-dropping wonder that is "Avatar." And he did it almost from scratch.

There is no underlying novel or myth to generate his story. He certainly draws deeply on Westerns, going back to "The Vanishing American" and, in particular, "Dances With Wolves." And the American tragedy in Vietnam informs much of his story. But then all great stories build on the past ( "Avatar" premiered Thursday in London).

After writing this story many years ago, he discovered that the technology he needed to make it happen did not exist. So, he went out and created it in collaboration with the best effects minds in the business. This is motion capture brought to a new high where every detail of the actors' performances gets preserved in the final CG character as they appear on the screen. Yes, those eyes are no longer dead holes but big and expressive, almost dominating the wide and long alien faces.

The movie is 161 minutes and flies by in a rush. Repeat business? You bet. "Titanic"-level business? That level may never be reached again, but Fox will see more than enough grosses worldwide to cover its bet on Cameron.

Τι να πω; Θα ήθελα ΠΟΛΥ μα ΠΑΡΑ ΠΟΛΥ να έβλεπα ΟΛΑ τα Star Wars σε remake από τον David Lynch. Μύθος! Τρομερό. Μακάρι να συνέβαινε αυτό ;'(

Το Micro$oftNBC σφάζει την Apple με το βαμβάκι

Apple is without a doubt the consummate innovator of the new media era, turning the music business and then the mobile phone business upside down, and now setting its sights squarely on the TV, publishing, and video game businesses. (Oh, and it has a nice computer business going, too.)

And yet Apple does none of the things that pundits always say you should do to succeed in the Internet economy.

Apple doesn’t blog; it doesn’t Tweet; it does little on Facebook; it doesn’t engage with its customer base. It doesn’t ask the “community” for feedback or rapidly iterate based on any such feedback or even respond to criticism.

It doesn’t give anything away for free, thank you very much — in fact, the company charges premium prices for just about everything. Its customer service is perfunctory. It engages in terribly consumer-unfriendly practices like making you buy a whole new device when the battery dies.

And marketing? I don’t know the numbers, but it’s hard to think of any technology-related business that spends more money on that most retro of media, the glossy magazine ad. It pours tens of millions into television advertising, and buys up the most expensive billboards in big cities. Sure, Apple buys online ads too, but mostly display ads. For the most part, Apple advertising is old media all the way.

This anomaly could be written off as simply the Apple exception: So much about the company is unlikely in the extreme that it may not be a good example of anything.

Από την μία την θάβει και από την άλλη την εξυμνεί την Apple το καλά μαγειρεμένο άρθρο του M$NBC. Αλλά αυτό που θα πρεπε να πει με την μία είναι: "Δεν καταλαβαίνουμε πως το κάνει η Apple αυτό που κάνει και απλά έχουνε σκάσει οι μάπες μας που δεν μπορούμε να την χτυπήσουμε με ΟΤΙ ΜΑΛΑΚΙΕΣ και να πετάμε στους καταναλωτές για την Apple, αυτοί εκεί. Συνεχίζουν να αγοράζουν τα προϊόντα της. Δεν πειράζει όμως, ας συνεχίζουμε τη λασπολογία. Υπάρχει ένα δισεκατομμύριο και πλέον πρόβατα εκεί έξω που μας ακούει."

Τα Windows 7 είναι πιο άθλια στην ασφάλεια από τα Windows Vista

According to a well respected security firm, Microsoft’s flagship Windows 7 operating system is less secure in its default configuration that Vista.

Trend Micros CEO Raimund Genes believes that Microsoft has put usability ahead of security:

“I’m not saying Windows 7 is insecure, but out of the box Vista is better.”

“I was disappointed when I first used a Windows 7 machine that there was no warning that I had no anti-virus, unlike Vista. There are no file extension hidden warnings either. Even when you do install anti-virus, warnings that it has not been updated are almost invisible.”

“Windows 7 may be an improvement in terms of usability but in terms of security it’s a mistake, though one that isn’t that surprising. When Microsoft’s developers choose between usability and security, they will always choose usability.”

Ή αλλιώς με άλλα λόγια, πως πρέπει να κάνετε τα Windows 7 να συμπεριφέρονται σαν τον αληθινό τους εαυτό: Windows Vista SP3.

Τέλος παιχνιδιού για την Micro$oft

Microsoft started out its life as a consumer/developer-focused company. The company subsequently switched strategies and became a largely enterprise-focused vendor. These days, consumer is king for Microsoft — at least as far as corporate strategy and where its ad dollars go.

But what if Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie and other leaders at Microsoft are wrong and integrating the consumer and business worlds doesn’t really matter? One very influential market watcher, Mark Anderson, author of the Strategic News Service newsletter, is betting that instead of a melding, there will be an increasing chasm between the consumer and business market.

Anderson, whose word carries a lot of weight with corporate execs (including those from Microsoft), venture capitalists and other movers and shakers, held his annual predictions dinner in New York City on December 10. His list of 2010 tech predictions, which included a number of things that won’t surprise some tech watchers, Anderson acknowledged, were pretty dire for Microsoft.

Κυρίες και κύριοι η Micro$oft δεν πέθανε τώρα. Ήτανε νεκρή από την εποχή των Windows 1.0. Απλά εμείς βαλσαμώσαμε το νεκρό ενώ αυτός ήταν γυμνός, μας τον πλασάραμε για καλοντυμένο αυτοκράτορα και εμείς τα ζώα τον πληρώνουμε, χωρίς πολλά πολλά.
