IBM Throws Out Microsoft Office

360.000 IBM workers have been told to stop using Microsoft Office and switch to the Open Office-based software Symphony.
Quoting an inside source, the German economic newspaper, “Handelsblatt” reports that staff at IBM have been given ten days to change to Symphony, IBM's in-house Lotus software. The use of Microsoft Office will in future require managerial approval. With immediate affect, the Open Document Format (ODF) will rule at IBM with the file ending .doc soon belonging to the past.

Linux VS Micro$oft

Linux Foundation executive director Jim Zemlin has a message for Microsoft: he wants the software giant to stop attacking Linux. Zemlin contends that Microsoft is engaged in a covert war against the open source operating system and that the company's hostile behavior is detrimental to the growing number of Microsoft customers who deploy mixed Windows and Linux environments.

Μπροστά στον Ballmer

ΜΗΝ κρατάτε iPhone. Steve Ballmer σας έφαγε κατά το γνωστό μαύρο φίδι σας έφαγε!

By all accounts, Microsoft's private company meeting at Seattle's Safeco Field today was a hit -- with a preview of a "Bing 2.0" overhaul, executives demonstrating Project Natal, the unveiling of the first Windows 7 television commercial, comedy from Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers, high-fives from Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, free beer and plenty of Microsoft kool-aid to go around.

And then there was that poor Microsoft employee who tried to take a picture of Ballmer with an iPhone.

Apparently, it was all in good fun, but suffice it to say that the person probably won't make that mistake again. Microsoft employees alluded to the incident on Twitter, and I was able to confirm details independently.

Το θάψιμο της χρονιάς από τη μαμά Micro$oft

Δικαίωμα της Micro$oft είναι να λέει ότι ανοησία θέλει για τα παλιό-Windows της αλλά έλεος. Όχι άλλο κάρβουνο.

Σε “εκπαιδευτικό” υλικό που προωθεί σε μεγαλοκαταστήματα στην Αμερική, θάβει τα Apple προϊόντα. Βέβαια το μεγάλο θάψιμο πέφτει στο Linux.

Μπορώ να δώσω τουλάχιστον δύο απαντήσεις για κάθε ανοησία που λένε για τα Apple προϊόντα αλλά ειδικά για το Linux η βλακεία τους σπάει ρεκόρ. Μάλλον ο Steve Ballmer έγραψε το “εκπαιδευτικό” υλικό. Δεν εξηγείται αλλιώς. Τέτοια βλακεία; Steve Ballmer, ω ναι!

Αλλά έτσι είναι. Αν είσαι σε κατάσταση πανικού, τέτοια κάνεις. Καημένη Micro$oft. Δεν σε παίζει κανείς. Κάντε κάποιος μια αγκαλίτσα στον καημένο τον Steve Ballmer. Το παιδοβούβαλο έχει ανάγκη όχι μόνο από τα χρήματά σας αλλά και από αγκαλίτσες.

Μη στενοχωριέσαι Steve. Μπορείς όποτε θέλεις να περάσεις από τον καναπέ μου να χαλαρώσεις και να μου πεις ότι θέλεις. Θα ξαλαφρώσεις πολύ. Βλήμα, ε βλήμα.

But Snow Leopard booted into the 64-bit kernel shows a consistent performance advantage over Leopard, and even more advantage over 32-bit Snow Leopard as well. Performance gains of up to 30% were observed, making Snow Leopard by far the best value for the money in a long, long time. At about $25 , you won’t find a more compelling upgrade of any kind, anywhere.

Ευτυχώς που υπάρχουν και αυτοί οι Δάσκαλοι και διαβάζουμε κάτι σοβαρό και εμπεριστατωμένο σε αντίθεση με τις μπουρδολογίες των άθλιων Windows (α)χρηστών. Ή αλλιώς από τις πουτάνες τις Micro$oft...

Snow Leopard: Εκτυπωτές και Σκάνερς

Snow Leopard: Το review του Ars Technica

In June of 2004, during the WWDC keynote address, Steve Jobs revealed Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger to developers and the public for the first time. When the finished product arrived in April of 2005, Tiger was the biggest, most important, most feature-packed release in the history of Mac OS X by a wide margin. Apple's marketing campaign reflected this, touting "over 150 new features."

All those new features took time. Since its introduction in 2001, there had been at least one major release of Mac OS X each year. Tiger took over a year and a half to arrive. At the time, it definitely seemed worth the wait. Tiger was a hit with users and developers. Apple took the lesson to heart and quickly set expectations for the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard. Through various channels, Apple communicated its intention to move from a 12-month to an 18-month release cycle for Mac OS X. Leopard was officially scheduled for "spring 2007."

As the date approached, Apple's marketing machine trod a predictable path.

Apple even went so far as to list all 300 new features on its website. As it turns out, "spring" was a bit optimistic. Leopard actually shipped at the end of October 2007, nearly two and a half years after Tiger. Did Leopard really have twice as many new features as Tiger? That's debatable. What's certain is that Leopard included a solid crop of new features and technologies, many of which we now take for granted. (For example, have you had a discussion with a potential Mac user since the release of Leopard without mentioning Time Machine? I certainly haven't.)

Mac OS X appeared to be maturing. The progression was clear: longer release cycles, more features. What would Mac OS X 10.6 be like? Would it arrive three and a half years after Leopard? Would it and include 500 new features? A thousand?

At WWDC 2008, Bertrand Serlet announced a move that he described as "unprecedented" in the PC industry.

That's right, the next major release of Mac OS X would have no new features. The product name reflected this: "Snow Leopard." Mac OS X 10.6 would merely be a variant of Leopard. Better, faster, more refined, more... uh... snowy.
